[kinda edited: March 19th]
[a/n: this chapter is extremely long — i haven't posted in a while and i needed to fit the scenes all into one — so I apologize in advance. nothing big will happen, but i'd appreciate you reading it anyway because it's important for the storyline <3]
Rossi entered the conference room with a cup of coffee in hand. "Ah, so you guys are already here. Great," he said as he took off his suit jacket. Just then he realized the five set of eyes that stared up at him. His brows knitted tightly together and he stared back, obviously confused.
Derek chuckled. "You okay?" He asked. A glint of amusement crossed his face.
David took his sunglasses and slid them off gracefully, settling into his chair comfortably. "Yeah," he said. "I've never been better."
"Dave," Hotch stepped in, "This is SSA Brooks, he's the one who called us in. Brooks, this is SSA David Rossi." He motioned to his colleague and probably closest friend.
Brooks stifled a laugh. His hand shook Rossi's almost violently, leaving the man with a rather shocked expression. "David Rossi," he said. "As I live and breathe!" He shook his head and a grin spread from ear to ear. The man wasn't a big reader, but those he had read.
Rossi, however, didn't seem very pleased. The way his face tensed with a forced smile kind of gave him away, but his colleagues were the only ones who realized it. "SSA Brooks," he said.
"You know, I'm a big fan of your books. Never thought I'd meet you in person though."
Derek craned his neck to chuckle into the palm of his hand. The older Agent was so stiff, it was almost hilarious. Even Emily coughed through a high-pitched laugh. Brooks was a big fan of Rossi, but the latter already seemed to dislike him.
Hotch looked around, a frown displaying on his face. "Dave, where's Reid?" He asked, a bit confused as to why the genius wasn't around when they needed him.
Everyone else turned towards the door, suddenly asking themselves the same question.
Morgan crossed his arms. "Yeah, did you throw him out of the car or something?" He joked.
The older Agent furrowed his eyebrows. "Oh, right, Reid," — he checked the door for any sign of the boy, but he was nowhere to be seen — "I thought everything had gone unusually smoothly," Rossi sighed.
It was most definitely the only reason he called the team children; they always behaved like toddlers. Not even five minutes after their arrival and Spencer was already gone with the wind.
With a small groan, he crossed his legs. "Well," Rossi said. "Reid's old enough to find his way here and even if he doesn't, he'll probably get arrested for being a smart ass sooner or later." He received a number of laughs from the team.
