A/N: can you spot the fine line references I put into this chapter? I also went a bit out of my way to build on some friendships. Enjoy!
How does one crave coffee and then end up with an ice cream from McDonald's, you may ask. Well, it's simple: if you decide to take Skylar Brown along to buy something in the middle of the night, you end up with tons of weird stuff.
"You know," Spencer said after a while of just silently walking down the street together, "I don't really get you..."
"Why?" Skylar asked. "What don't you get about me?" She took another spoonful of her Oreo ice cream.
Spencer snapped out of his thoughts and, with a soft smile playing on his lips, said, "You forget to eat the entire day and then once you get even the slightest chance, you inhale almost the entire McDonald's menu."
"And?" She asked. "My life is full of fine lines. There's stuff I cant control, like this job, for example. Things that aren't like other people's normal," she said. "This is just my kind of normal. It's one of those fine lines in my life between normal and insanity. Without them, I'd be completely trapped on one of either sides and I don't want that. Never did."
"Every time I think I know you, Sky, you pull something else out of your sleeve. It's like there's no end to the magic trick that is your life."
She bit her lip. "I guess that's true," she said. "But on the contrary, I told you about my mom and I don't do that often." It was more than a hundred percent true; her words were the bearings of her soul, trying her best to give Spencer the friendship he deserved, but failing miserably.
Spencer took a spoonful of his ice cream as well and licked the cold diary off. "I just wish for the day you finally trust me enough to tell me your whole story." He looked at her and she looked at them, so many unsaid things left between them, but they didn't really care.
They just looked at each other; Skylar just knew he was right, and he knew that, too.
She nodded. "Me, too," she admitted quietly. Then they fell silent again.
Spencer couldn't describe the warmth that her mere presence caused to spark within him. Or the sudden urge to make her trust him with everything he had, willing to bear every dark and dirty secret. He couldn't remember the last time he was so open towards someone he barely knew.
Never, he thought. He had never had a connection quite like this before. There was a special connection — a special something that him and Skylar shared. Alone the thought of that something scared him, but he couldn't stop thinking of a life where they had a bigger chance. Where they could be together without this stupid job or stupid serial killers or stupid trauma. Just him and Skylar and their friends and then nothing more.
He graced his brown eyes over her small figure walking next to him, head narrowed, eating ice cream. She looked so beautiful in the colorful Las Vegas lights, Spencer was actually tempted to take her hand, but then he remembered that they were friends, and holding hands in public wasn't a friends thing to do.
