'But you'
Chapter 3:
(Ella's pov)
"So" I spoke, feeling a little awkward considering the circumstances.
"I didn't want to leave," He stated bluntly looking straight into my eyes.
"I don't understand," I replied.
"It wasn't something I wanted to do" He answered not giving me a true answer. I could see he felt uncomfortable about talking about this but this isn't something he'll be able to run from if he wants to see me.
"Why did you go?" I spoke up, I wanted to whisper but I needed to ask.
"It's not that easy to explain," He said making me feel even more hurt. Why wouldn't he at least try?
"Then why have you come back?" I asked looking down into my lap. I heard no response so I looked up at him, he was still directly staring at me and only me.
"So you've come back to hurt me a little bit more?" I asked straight out looking at him
"No. I want to explain, really I do but I don't know how you're going to react" He said fidgeting.
"So you're afraid of my reaction?" I asked and he nodded. He shakes his head before wiping his face with his hand.
"I'm immortal," He said. He's what? Is he joking? Surely this has to be a twisted joke.
"Really? Are you kidding me?" I said. Of all the excuses he could have used, he said this? Why?
"What?" He said, his tone and demeanor unchanged with a facial expression that was trying to read mine.
"You could have just said the classic 'It wasn't you, it was me' or the 'I have no feelings towards you anymore' or the-" I said before he cut me off.
"I'm telling the truth, Ella," he said with a straight face.
"Why am I finding this hard to believe?" I asked before he disappeared in front of my eyes as if he had magically disappeared. He came back into sight seconds later. I stood up out of shock and took a step back nearly falling back into my chair, but still managing to stay standing.
"Ella," He said standing up and took a few steps towards me but I backed away towards my right in confusion. I don't know who is he is or what has happened to him but this was the not the Dylan I knew.
"Mind your-" He said. I backed away until I went to a sudden stop by banging my head on a bookshelf. I grunted, running my hand on my head to check for blood, luckily there wasn't any but I could tell it would leave a lump. I looked straight at him and he was still and staring directly at me giving me his full eye contact. He looked disappointed in my reaction and scared of losing me.
"Why didn't you tell me?" I asked removing my hand from my head.
"It was complicated" He replied. I could see he was still awaiting some other reaction from me.
"Technically what you did doesn't prove that your immortal, it only proves that you can disappear in thin air," I said moving away from the bookshelf before I hit my head again. He gave a small chuckle smiling.
"Of course you would think of the technicalities of the situation." He commented laughing to himself, he walked over to a picture of me and Joe smiling on the bookshelf. I stood still looking up at him as he spoke.
"I never liked him," He said flowing his hand through his hair, distracting me from what he was saying.
"But if that's what you choose," He said carrying on his comment as he put the frame down.
"It's not like I wanted to be with him, I wanted to be with you but you left, did you expect me not to move on?" I said. He just stood there, looking slightly stunned by what I was saying but also slightly relieved. He didn't move, he stood still like a statue with his eyes only on me.
"Why did you come back?" I asked looking down at the floor playing with my watch, moving it around my wrist. He took a step forwards still looking at me, gliding his hand through my hair like he used to, ignoring my question. I pulled back realizing he wasn't answering my questions.
"Why did you come back?" I asked again and he halfheartedly smiled.
"I'm not supposed to be back," He replied still not answering my question
"So why come back?" I asked taking a step back
"I-" He muttered, trying to think.
"I can't let you go" He boldly said looking directly into my eyes. My knees felt weaker than before as he was finally saying the words I have been craving for the past year but they felt too late. My thoughts were instantly disturbed when the front door was unlocked and I heard Joe come in and put his keys on the side table next to the door.
"Owen wanted to look at my notes for the Lawson case but I think I left them here. I thought you were going back to work" I heard Joe say before he came into sight. As Joe was speaking, Dylan's eyes shot up towards me looking for a response on his previous comment. Joe looked at Dylan up and down and looked at me with confusion. He threw the post to one side as he spoke.
"I thought you were dead," Joe said to Dylan calmly, his tone becoming deeper.
"I thought he was missing," I said to Joe trying to get my head around this awkward encounter.
"Yet I'm here," Dylan said to us both smiling at me.
"Could I have a word with you in the bedroom a minute Ella please?" Joe asked before walking towards the bedroom not giving me a chance to argue it. I followed him in and he closed the door behind me.
"What is he doing here?" He asked me to put his suit jacket on the bed.
"He was about to answer that before you came in" I retorted as I sat at the end of the bed. I watched joe was looking through a box of files in the wardrobe.
"It doesn't feel right having my girlfriend alone in a room with her ex," He commented, not turning to face me.
"It's not like that," I said
"Really? Because you two were fairly close when I came in" He said. If he hadn't come in when he did, we probably would be have been even closer.
"I need to talk to him," I said softly. I needed answers and the way Dylan was talking, it was scaring me and I wanted to make sure he was okay and safe.
"Not here your not," He said still turned around not facing me
"Do you not trust me?" I asked, I heard him huff as soon as I said it, he turned around taking a file out and began looking through the papers. He's ignoring me but giving me a tough love act wasn't working, if anything it was annoying me.
"It's not you, I don't trust him," He responded.
"No, it's him I get it," I said getting up feeling done with his rudeness. It wouldn't kill him to give me his full attention for two minutes.
"Why are you being like that?" He asked grabbing his blackberry from his suit pocket.
"Right, I'm going to go out for a bit, and then I'm going to come back and were going to talk," I said leaving the room. I saw Dylan standing still facing my direction as I came back smiling.
"You wanna go?" I asked before disappearing to get my coat.
"You want me to leave?" He asked following me towards the door.
"No I'm coming with you," I said grabbing the car keys from the side.

Romance"I want you back," he said as I looked up from the ground. "Don't" I said trying to stop him, I didn't want to talk about us anymore. We were over and this connection wasn't helping us in any way, in fact, it just pulled us closer to each other. "No...
