Memory is a fickle thing.

Memory can strengthen you or weaken you, when challenged memory will come into play and when fearful memory will decide your fate.
If you can remember even the smallest of details nothing shall harm you,
But if you forget even for an instant then all is lost.

Splash, ripple. Splash, ripple.
Beep, beep, beep, beep.
Rustle, cough, rustle cough.
Thump, thump, thump, thump.

These sounds repeated minute by minute in her ears as she stared at the baby blue wall, it was weird she thought because she had always expected them to be white.
Behind bright green curtains a few ladies whispered on her right side, she tried to close her eyes and strained to listen but the more she tried to focus the more it became fuzzy.

So she gave up and just laid there waiting, the needle in her arm itched then burned with sensation, it would increase whenever she moved.
It didn't take long for a lady to go into her curtain and start checking the machinery attached to her,

"And how are we feeling today Miss Pine?" She squeaked too optimistic for anyone's liking,

"Sera, feeling fine thanks."
The young woman sat up in her bed only to be pinpricked with thousands of burns up her arm, she winced and saw the nurse frowned.

"It doesn't sound like it."
"Well of course not after all I've got what? Two more, predicted, failed procedures left."

The nurse muttered to herself as she worked on the machinery before looking at her,
"Right, Miss Pine—"
"Sera."
"Sera, is there anything I can do to make you more comfortable?"

She shook her head, pity and sympathy were more than enough torment for her. The nurse gave a short nod before walking out of the curtain,
The sounds around her came back to life in her ears as she had just stepped into a tropical jungle buzzing with untamed life.

She could hear the nurse who had just left speak in a hushed voice to another person, an intenser voice answered. As she eavesdropped the old woman beside her coughed violently, she was wheezing while her machine started beeping rapidly.
She didn't know why but she was fascinated by the look on her face, she gawked as the pupils swelled and her veins seized up while her body arched over.

She didn't alarm the nurse as she should have, she just gazed.
"Sera!"

Her gaze was broken as her name was called, hands landing heavily on her shoulders while nurses gathered around the elderly lady. She didn't actually realise the words had left her mouth,

"There's no use,"
The nurses flinched.
"She's already dead."

Of course, they didn't listen, they tried to support the old woman while she just stared.
While they strived to keep the lady stable, hands covered her eyes while faint whispers filled her ears sorrowfully,
"Don't look,"
She felt the tension stir in the dense depressed air.
"Please Sera..."

"I won't, Elle."
