"What are you saying!?"
Rick's nose went a shade of hot pink as he nearly yelled, she replied simply."In two days time, I'll die."
They sat there in the deadly silence for what seemed an eternity before Henry finally spoke up,
"Is there no way to stop it?"
"I don't want to."Their eyes grew wide while hers stood still on them, both of them had no idea what to say but she could feel what they were thinking. She leaned up a little and sipped her Orange Tango and peering at the clock,
"Why are you acting so okay with this? Why aren't you panicking? Why don't you try to stop it?"
Rick bombarded her with questions, his nose seemed to have gotten pinker by the end.She looked around at all the patients in the room, some were children while others were teenagers, adults and elderly.
Despite not knowing she could see so clearly what they were all thinking and saying to themselves, praying. As clear as a reflection, she could see they all so desperately cling to life and hope to live."I don't want to escape my death, I don't want to cling onto life and hope. Death is natural and it is something we will all face at some point, we can pray to live for one more day but to then what? Die the next?"
They listened, stunned.
"Death is around us every day even if we can't see it someone will die today, tomorrow and next week and the week after. We are all so afraid of death when really we should embrace it! I'm not afraid to die because I know when I do die it wasn't because I gave up or because my prayer wasn't answered, it was because I died the way I expected and the way I wanted."The lull seemed to have stretched for hours when it was all but a few moments until at last Henry cleared his throat,
"Well I think it's best I head back home now, I'll visit again soon. Bye Sera."She waved goodbye while Rick sat there staring into space, she waited for him to say something or do something but he just gazed into the far distance. Her thoughts questioned if she had just lost...an acquaintance? No. He was a friend now, or at least she hoped they were still friends.
Just as she opened her mouth to say something to him, maybe apologise for her opinion, he broke into a wide smile and chuckled."You know you're really something Sera!"
"Oh?"
He leaned over and patted her hand before falling back against his bed,
"Have you ever star-gazed before?"She shook her head, he grinned.
"You remind me of the stars, they're beautiful and mysterious even when we know what they truly are. Yet no two stars are the same, just like you and all of us."
She looked up at the ceiling imagining the stars above.
