He waited for them to start clicking again until realising she wasn't moving, she was hunched over the body on the other side of Sera. It was a middle-aged man with old grandpa glasses and worn out Hawaii shirts,
He watched as she pressed two fingers to his neck before gasping and rushing off only to return with two others. He listened to the hushed whispers as best he could,
"Dear...he can't be...have you checked.."
"I did...he's definitely...we have to move..."
A new female nurse spoke.
"Surely we can't...he isn't...he deserves to..."
"We can't afford..."
"That's eight in the last...how many more...lose?"
"We have no choice, let's just move...and get him in the...on three."After a few minutes, he heard the springs of the bed bounce a little and they went out of the room huffing a bit, when they came back he could hear soft crying.
He wished he could've stayed awake but the weight of his eyelids got the better of him and he quickly fell asleep. When the sun rose that morning Sera blinked the sleep from her eyes pulling herself up a little before noticing Rick already awake sitting up with one leg bent and his...amputated leg laid beside it.
He gave a wave to her,"Morning Sleeping Beauty, good thing you're awake because uh there's..."
She heard the sniffle before seeing them, he pointed to behind her and she saw a little boy; small and frail with tear-stained cheeks, he had ruffled bright camel hair.
He was rubbing his eyes which were bright and vibrant grey, or maybe really light blue? It was hard to tell at first."Hey uh, little boy, what's your name?"
Rick groaned under his breath facepalming,
"Oh gosh and I thought my motherly nature kids!"
"Hey! Shush you!"She reached a hand out only making him flinch and whimper.
"What's your name?"
"P-pip..."
"Hi Pip, I'm Sera and this is my friend Rick, How old are you?"He curled up his legs to his chest as another tear rolls down his cheek,
"Ten."
"You're so young to be here, where's your parents?"He said nothing at first but rocked back and forth looking down at his toes, she looked around at Rick who shrugged,
"I tried to ask him a few things earlier but he wouldn't talk to me."
"Wait, where's Paul?"
"Paul?"
She nodded to Pip's bed.
"The old man who used to be in the bed before Pip?"He rubbed his arm before exhaling,
"He died last night, I heard the nurses talking about it...he passed peacefully in his sleep."
"Well, at least he didn't suffer, Pip?"The little boy lifted his head still trembling,
"Are you here alone? Do you know what you're sick with?"His eyes looked up at hers, he was like a puppy begging for food.
"M-my mommy...didn't wake up,"
"The ladies here say I have cancer."
