The rest of the month passed by fairly quick. Today is graduation day so I put my dress on and gather my cap and gown. Me and landon hop in the truck and head to school. I was so ready to walk across that stage and finish the journey of high school. Just to begin my adult life in college and so on. I live the thought of independence and freedom, I can be who I want and do what I want.
After a while everyone was seated and the parents were gathered but there was one spot left for my father. I gave my phone to landons mom and asked her to answer the FaceTime when he called. They began announcing how things would go and that boring stuff. They began to call names one by one people would go up and get their diploma. Soon enough they'd called my name. "Lakyn rosaline Adean." I stood and walked down the path leading to the stage. I shyly watched as my blue heel stepped each step toward the little stairs up to the stage. I slowly walked up each step. As I got to the podium they announced my classes and the honors I was in, I took my diploma and looked into the crowd looking to see if my father had called. I seen Mrs. Shay sitting there patiently she hadn't my phone in her hand. I let my smile slip for a second as I took the picture and walked off stage.

They'd finished calling everybody and concluded the ceremony as any other. We threw our caps in the air and I kissed landon who was standing beside me. He openly kissed back and hugged me as if he'd never want to let me go.
We went meet his parents. "Mrs. Shay my dad didn't call?" She seemed sad to tell me. "Honey he didn't." I lost a little more of my glow but decided to push it away since he's probably working. We gathered our things and landons parents went home while we went eat then decided to go to an after party.
I went change in the bathroom to change.

I slid My black leather jacket over my shoulders only showing part of my red top. I slipped into my skirt and slid my feet into my heel boots. I topped it all of with braiding my hair and putting on matching red lipstick. I opened the door and went to find landon.
I walked past a bunch of people but wasn't able to find him.
I decided to let him find me so I went get a drink. Just as I was walking towards the food bar my phone started vibrating in my pocket. I pulled it out and seen it was a us government number, I quickly walked to the nearest bathroom and answered. I'd been waiting to talk to my father all day. But as I answered the phone I realized it wasn't him. "Hello?" A manly voice spoke over the line. "Yea, uhh who's this?" I asked out of curiosity. "Ahh hello I'm Sargent stone and I'm calling on behalf of your father. This is lakyn correct?" I didn't understand why my father would send someone else to call me. "Yes, I'm lakyn. What's going on?" I began to worry for a second I mean my father always calls me. It's just not normal if he doesn't. "Yes well there's been an accident. Your father was out in the field and the troupes were falling back, but he went to save a little girl. She was a suicide bomb, before your father realized it blew. Your father is no longer with us, he didn't make it lakyn. I am so sorry." Those words, those sentences, the way he spoke. I couldn't believe what I'd heard. "It has to be a joke my father isn't gone he is a good man he doesn't deserve this." I was in denial. "I'm sorry but he's gone. Well send his things to your house address, and there will be a funeral held at the memorial cemetery with full military honors. Again I send my condolences." And just like that my world had completely crumbled.
