Ryan's P.O.V.
I groaned as my alarm blared into my ears to wake me up for school. Andrea still hadn't talked to me since the party on Friday, but it was most likely just because she left her phone at the party. There was no way she was still mad about me ditching her, or was she? I tried my best to get my mind off of Friday. After sitting in bed for about five minutes, I finally got the motivation to get up and start to get ready for the day.
I slumped over to my closet and pulled out a plain white t-shirt and a pair of black Adidas sweat pants. I slid those on over the boxers I had slept in. Then, I grabbed a pair of blue elites out of my dresser. I plopped down onto my bed and put the socks on which were soon followed by a pair of black and white sneakers.
I stepped out into the hallway and started heading towards the bathroom, but I was stopped at the doorway by my 13-year-old sister, Elizabeth.
"No freakin' way! You're not getting the bathroom, Ry. I woke up late and it's gonna take me awhile to fix this hot mess!" She laughed, pointing her fingers up and down her makeup-less face and dirty blonde hair that was up in a bun, indicating the 'hot mess'.
"Yeah... you do look pretty bad..." I joked as I tapped her on the shoulder. Her mouth formed into a shape of an O.
"Whatever!" She giggled as she playfully punched me on the arm. She rolled her eyes and shut the door in my face.
My mom and dad were both already at work, so it was just me and my sister in the house. I glanced up at the clock. It was seven thirty-seven, and school started at eight so I needed to get going. I looked in a mirror that was hanging on our living room wall and fixed my hair a bit.
"Liz, I'm going to school!" I shouted over her obnoxiously loud hair dryer.
"K!" She exclaimed. I grabbed my backpack off of the couch and then swung open the front door. The cold air blew lightly on my face, but I was too lazy to grab a jacket. I slammed the door behind me and headed towards my truck.
Once I arrived at school, I went straight to the courtyard. I scanned the scene for Andrea, but she was nowhere to be found. I set my backpack down at a nearby pic table and then walked up beside Bri, who was blabbering about something or other with Kelsi and Natalie.
"Hey, Bri..." I stated awkwardly.
She turned around smiling, but when she saw me, her face went blunt. She pulled me aside from the group.
"What the hell?!" She asked angrily.
"What..?"
"Why would you ask me to take Andrea home?! She was your responsibility to get home, not mine. Now her mom is pissed at me cause I was apparently supposed to take her h-" Bri began to rant, but I cut her off.
"Bri! Why is it such a big deal to take Andrea home...? Y'all are best friends, and I thought y'all would like the time together anyways...?" I felt guilty for just dropping Andrea on her, but I was still confused on why it was such a big deal.
"Were... We were best friends..." Bri sighed.
"What...?"
Bri looked down at the ground and bit her lip nervously.
"Long story short, we got in a fight at the party, and I haven't seen her since..."
"Wait, so you're telling me you didn't take her home?!"
Bri nodded and rubbed the back of her neck worriedly. Before I could say anything else-
BLINGGGGGGG
-the bell rang indicating that it was time for us to go to our first period class. I sighed and threw my black under armor backpack around my shoulders. I was starting to get more and more worried about where Andrea was. Not only did I not know how or if she got home, but I also couldn't remember a damn thing from that night.
-
I didn't see Andrea at all during school, not even at lunch. Luckily, Coach canceled practice, so I decided to go over to Andrea's house to check up on her.
I turned the corner that led to Andrea's street, and I was shocked by what I saw. The multiple police lights flashing from Andrea's driveway nearly blinded me. I sped up the engine of my truck until I came to a stop on the street in front of her house. Without even thinking, I swung open my car door and ran towards the front porch. The closer I got, I noticed the police were surrounding a sobbing Ms.Rose, and they all had notepads as if they were interviewing her.
"-a-and she has b-brown wavy hair..." She was struggling to get her words out. I hopped up onto the porch frantically.
"Ms.Rose? Are you okay?" I questioned as I walked up beside her.
"Ryan..." She motioned the police officers to give us some space, and they did so. I looked at her with confusion. My mind raced with tons of thoughts, some more gruesome than others. I tried my best to get the negative thoughts out of my head, but it was harder than I thought. Ms.Rose placed her hand on my shoulder sympathetically, trying to choke down her sobs.
"Ryan, Andrea hasn't come home from the party..."
I felt my heart break inside. I looked down at the ground, trying not to think the worst.
"I filed her as a missing person ... I thought maybe she had just gone off with her friends, b-but... She still hasn't come home, and they called the school and she wasn't th-" tears started falling lightly onto her cheeks. Nothing she was saying was making sense, but I knew it was only because of Andrea. I pulled her in for a hug. My body felt as if it was numb. My mind was scattered with so many different thoughts, but still no words came out of my mouth. I patted Ms.Rose lightly on the back.
After awhile, I released Ms.Rose.
"I gotta go talk to the police..." She sniffled and nudged her head towards the police cars where the police were huddled up in a circle. I nodded my head, and then sunk into a chair that was behind me. There was no way Andrea was missing for good... She would probably be back home in a few days, right? No matter how hard I tried to keep my thoughts positive, though, there was still a small, dark thought in the back of my mind that she would never be back.
I was praying to God that this was just another one of Andrea's pranks, or that she had gone off on one of those teenage rampages, and she would show up any minute. I looked up from the ground to see Ms.Rose standing beside me, about to place her hand on my shoulder.
"Does anyone else know about this?" I mumbled.
"No, just you. I think they're gonna call some people that were at the party into the station to talk. Hopefully some people will have some information to help us find Andrea..." Ms.Rose looked at me, a tiny bit of hope gleaming in her eyes.
It wasn't hard for me to take a hint. That meant I was gonna have to talk to the police; but for some reason, the spot where the the memories of that night were supposed to be was a huge, blank space in my mind. How was I supposed to help them find Andrea if I couldn't even remember one damn thing from that night? Not only that, but how were we all supposed to get away with the fact that we were drinking underage?
