Thursday-June 8th.

" You can place those boxes, in the corner ma." I dropped the box paint brushes and empty cans sat in wiping the sweat off my forehead

"Damn Sani this is nice, it screams you." My sister Janae spoke taking off her glasses to look around

I placed my hand on my hip looking around, I worked my ass off to get here. So to say I was proud of myself was an understatement.

And receiving a compliment from Janae is a achievement for me, all my life I grew up looking up to her.

Janae graduated highschool as valedictorian, 4.2 gpa, went to Howard University, graduated, and now works as a neurologist in Houston.

Me? Graduated highschool as valedictorian, 4.1 gpa, went to Hampton University, graduated with my BSN in nursing, and now reside in New York to continue my career as a registered nurse .

Alot to live up to but i think I did good if I say so myself.

"Thankya, Nae."

She placed the box down on a near by stool, I opened my arms overly excited pointing at the view from the kitchen.

" Isn't it gorgeous ma? The windows are huge." I beamed going over to peer I could see the Empire State Building in the distance

"I still don't see tha need to move all da way up hea, Hasani."  She pouted looking around the apartment

"Because Louisiana has nothing for me, we both know that mama. Can't you just be happy for me just for a second, because ya girl is in New York!" I snapped my fingers before walking over to the kitchen

"Mama c'mon na Sani is grown, the bird has to leave the nest one day. And she did damn good if I must say." Smiling she hugged my mother

"Ya right, I'm sorry if I upset ya, it's just your my baybeh. Nae left and now you're leaving, I'm just so use ta having y'all together dats all." She sighed looking around

"Mama I'm gonna be fine, might just bring you home a son in law." I nudged her before she smirked

"Yea right not, how you all shy." She fanned me off going to unpack the dishes

Janae walked over to the couch, plopping down on it before inhale a deep breath and exhaling .

" Sani, is all grown up na, on her own in New York. I don't know if, I've told you how proud I am of you but I truly am."

"Don't you're gonna make me cry, and we were doing so good." I chuckled wiping my stray ones

"I know after daddy and Jaali died, you just shut us out. But I'm really happy you overcame it." She peered over at me tears brimming her lower lids

"I know, I couldn't let them down. Daddy would be tossing in his grave if, I wouldn't have gone to school."

"You know it, "Hasani, you gon down dea and get you a education and that's dat!" While Jaali would've said " Man Sani, if I have to kick yo ass up and down this road I will you going to school." Janae said impersonating our father and brother

"You sound just them him, pure fools." I laughed still wiping tears

"Well me and mama have a flight to catch, na do not forgot to call us every morning or on yo break. Okay?" She questioned standing up grabbing her purse

"Yes, i will call you both tomorrow bright and early." I have her a hug and a kiss on the cheek

"You ready ma?" She asked walking towards the kitchen

"Yea just about, na I got you some gumbo in tha freezer might need to add a little gumbo filet, I was in a rush." I nodded walking them both to the door

"We love you, baybeh and we're all so proud of you. Don't forget to call us like Nae said."

"I will call you guys as soon as I wake up." I embraced them both in a hug waving goodbye after pulling away

I walked over to the doors that opened the patio, before stepping out I sighed before taking on the view
