For the first time, to the gang, school seemed much of a struggle, and they knew exactly why.
Hana and Logan hadn't talk to each other ever since the incident. He had also been slumbering at Seth's place and didn't walk home with Hana. He hadn't seen Lucas ever since then too. As for Jake and Sylvia, they found out about what happened from witnesses, Seth and Hailey. They were also told to keep their mouths shut about why Logan went violent against Victor. Luckily enough, Victor didn't press charges against Logan or made a big deal. But about the bruised face of his, he had told the school that a relative of his had accidentally landed a punch on him over the weekend. But that wasn't all too.
Even though an official baseball game was coming up, the last one of the school year, Logan had not attended any of this week's practices. His friends knew it was because he wanted to avoid Victor, and it was not because he felt guilty, but because his rage for Victor hadn't passed.
As for the friends, since Hana and Logan wouldn't hang out together and would spend time at different places, it had become hard for the friends to be together in one place. At lunch, the girls got their usual location, and the boys ate in a classroom. Still, no one talked. They just ate in silence. Then, after school, Seth and Hailey walked Hana to the daycare to get Lucas and then to home while Jake was with Logan at the park to wait for Seth and Hailey. That was where they would meet up so Logan could get an update on how his best friend was doing.
To add more to the awkwardness, today was Valentine's Day, four days after the punching incident. Hailey, Jake, and Seth wondered how Hana had made up with her boyfriend because it seemed like she hadn't had contact with Victor since then.
"Just tell her the truth, man," Jake hissed to Logan as he stole a glance at Hailey and Hana, who were getting ready to leave the classroom for lunch. "I don't like you guys being like this."
Logan sent Jake a look. "And you think I like it?"
"You don't?" Jake teasingly asked, provoking Logan when he knew the answer. When he got a nudge, he apologized. "Just joking."
"They're going now." Seth relayed the progress of their female friends. "Hailey opened the door and...now they're gone."
Jake whined and rested his head on the desk. Blowing out air, he said, "I'm really tired of this. Why can't you make up with her?"
"Even if I want to," said Logan, "she won't want to. I beat up her boyfriend."
Jake sat up straight again. "Can't believe he's that kind of low guy—pretending to be all nice and gentlemanly-like!" He patted Logan on the back. "I'm glad you did what you did. Thanks."
"That's not comforting," said Logan with a light smile.

Hana and Hailey, who were about to turn a corner, stopped when they saw Wallace come to their direction. Hana froze in her steps because she feared that Victor might be somewhere close by if Wallace was there, so Hailey turned Hana around to walk the opposite way.
"Wait!" exclaimed Wallace. He power-walked to them. He surpassed them and faced them. "I'm sorry! It is my fault everything happened that night! It was me who put that idea in his head."
Hailey realized that he was about to explain what Logan wanted to keep secret about from Hana. Without hesitation, she followed her promise with Logan and started to push Hana the opposite direction.
Wallace followed them. "I had no idea you would find offense to that."
Hailey knew that she and Hana couldn't escape from Wallace and that Hana would hear what Wallace would say. Not wanting Logan's effort to be for nothing, she stopped and covered Hana's ears. "Don't listen, Hana!"
