"Do I look okay? I feel like this outfit doesn't suit me as much as I thought it would, why did I even buy it?" I ask, craning my neck to see the back of my dress in the mirror.
Sera rolls her eyes, "You look perfectly fine, Haera. I don't know why you're putting so much effort into this, you're just meeting some random dude."
"Well, this 'random dude' is going to be my date to the wedding and I would prefer to not to embarrass myself on our first meeting." I huff, "I'm changing, this dress is way too form-fitting for me."
"Come on, it's not as if you're going on a blind date or anything. Besides, you're relationship has to be natural for Grandma to believe it. This dressing up thing is so not you."
I groan and finally agree to dress casually. I step out in some jeans and a blouse. Sera told me to just wear an old hoodie or something, but you won't catch me wearing a old hoodie to meet a date, doesn't matter if he's a "random dude" or not.
"Okay I'm done, let's go. The only thing worse than looking like a slob in front of this guy is making him think I have no sense of time whatsoever." I grab my purse and hop into some heels.
"Please, if Taeyong said that they're going to give Jungwoo a ride to the cinema first. So if anything, we'll be the ones waiting." Sera sighs and walks down the stairs, "You know, all that 'member with the best hair' stuff."
We arrive in front of a quaint little café on the other side of town and the atmosphere is completely draws me in. Apparently, this "random dude" was the one who chose the meeting point so plus points to him. I admire the exterior in awe once more before Sera drags me inside where Taeyong and the mystery guy are waiting.
The second we step inside, I freeze. Remember what I said about not wanting to embarrass myself on the first meeting? Well, it seems like I already did.
Because sitting next to Taeyong is Lucas. The brown-eyed stranger with a lopsided grin from the party. The one whose party I insulted. And broke down in front of. Twice. This is going to be so fun.
Sera calls out to Taeyong so loudly that the entire store turns to look at us. How I hate unnecessary attention. I look down and follow behind Sera like an angsty teenager who was dragged to the supermarket with her mom, and trying to avoid Lucas' gaze at all costs
Taeyong gives Sera a kiss on the forehead, then pulls me into a hug and ruffles my hair, "There's my favourite kid! It's been a while, hasn't it Haera?"
I nod and smile at him. Although I never got to see Taeyong that much in person, I've always enjoyed it whenever I talked to him. He was kind of like a second dad to me, always helping me out with homework and listening to my problems whenever I was sad.
"Sera told me what happened. I wanted to come over and beat the guy up when I heard that he dumped you." I cringed when he said that, I couldn't bring myself to take a peek at Lucas' reaction. "But it's okay! I've got you a date, meet Lucas. Lucas, this is Haera."
Lucas smirks and pretends to bow, "Nice to meet you, Haera."
I roll my eyes and nudge him with my shoulder, "Stop playing around, asshole."
"It looks like someone's grumpy." He grins with a sparkle in his eyes.
"Do you guys already know each other or something?" Sera asks.
I nod, "Sort of, it's a long story."
Taeyong cuts in, "Perfect! Then you guys don't even have to act natural. It's settled, he's your new boyfriend—"
"Fake!" Sera clears her throat, "He's your new fake boyfriend. This is all pretend, you guys can go back to being friends after the wedding."
We look at her in confusion but she brushes us off, "Anyway, Tae and I have got to get going. We're meeting the wedding planner today. See you!" We barely have a chance to say goodbye before they're out the door.
Lucas laughs, "Wow, if I didn't know better, I'd think your sister hated me or something."
"Nah, I don't think so." I scoot a little closer to him, "But, um, listen. Can you please forget about, you know."
"Forget about what? You breaking down in front of me twice already?" He laughs then smiles in reassurance, "Don't worry about it, I've already erased it from my head."
I smile back at him, "Thanks, this is a pretty awkward situation to be in. It would have been nice if we could have met in a...less awkward way."
"Definitely, seeing someone cry twice isn't really my ideal way of meeting a person." He pauses for a moment, "Are you okay, though? With, you know, the breakup...and this?"
I look up and meet his brown eyes, "The breakup? I'm still getting over it. But this, I'm completely cool with it. There were a million ways I imagined this could go wrong but I'm pretty glad you're going to be my date."
Lucas laughs once again, "Anytime, princess. If you ever need a fake boyfriend, I'm the guy to call. Not the first time I've done something like this."
I narrow my eyes at him, "Wait, what?"
He looks surprised for a moment, then he looks to the ground. But he runs a hand through his hair immediately after and smiles, "Nah, I'm kidding. I meant it's not the first time I've been on a date."
"Really? I'm surprised, no one likes a guy who throws bad parties." I giggle.
"Really?" He raises an eyebrow and rests his chin on his hand, "I could think of a bunch of girls who would disagree, princess."
"Alright Mr. Playboy, but is 'princess' going to be a permanent nickname? Because I'm not too fond of it."
Lucas smirks, "Get used to it, princess. That's your new nickname from now on."
The corner of my lips tug upwards and soon enough, we're talking like BFFs who haven't seen each other in years. I think this fake boyfriend thing isn't going to be so bad.
Hi y'all I hope you're all okay, stay at home please and wash your hands!
