1 and a half months to the wedding
"And that's how when we had our first kiss, a pretty awkward situation but it's still one of our best memories," Taeyong says with a fond smile on his face.
Sera and Taeyong brought me out to have lunch with them because Sera claimed I was ruining my eyes by staring at my phone 24/7. It's really only because of those meme wars that Lucas keeps starting with me, but of course I'm not going to tell her that.
"That's such a cute story, how come you've never told me this before? This was like, what, five years ago and I've never heard it?" I ask Sera.
"I'm pretty sure you've just forgotten or something. I've told this story a million times," Sera says with a soft giggle.
I raise an eyebrow slowly. "No, I don't think you've ever told me actually. I would remember something like that."
"Really? All my friends know that. Maybe I just haven't had the chance to tell you."
"I guess we haven't had many opportunities to catch up in general, huh? It would've been nice to get a call from you every now and then," I say with a bitter smile.
"I called a couple of times, but it just went straight to voicemail every time." Her voice wavers a little but she goes on, this time even louder. "Maybe if you weren't always hanging out with that asshole of an ex you had, we could've had a proper conversation."
"Sera." Taeyong stops her then switches the topic to defuse the slight tension. "So, um, I'm craving dessert. You guys up for ice cream?"
I smile and nod and him, but Sera still looks a little uncomfortable. I feel bad for bringing that up, I don't even know why I did. I just made the whole situation awkward.
While we head back to the car, Sera nudges my shoulder. "Sorry about that, I don't know what came over me."
"Nah, don't worry about it. I was the one who brought it up anyway."
"We're both probably tired from wedding prep, we need some ice cream to relax," she laughs and gets in the front seat, leaving me still a little doubtful.

"You look like you need a little help," Lucas' voice echoes throughout the empty hallway.I nearly drop the carefully crafted project that I'm holding, cursing myself for almost destroying the piece of work that I spend hours on the previous day. I'm surprised I didn't notice him sneak up behind me though. He's the kind of person you would be able to hear from miles away, that's how loud he is.
Lucas carefully takes hold of my project so I can hold my textbooks properly and actually see where I'm going. "There you go, princess. Now you won't be bumping into random lockers everywhere."
"Thanks Lucas, but don't drop that. If you do, you can expect to see me in your room tonight." I make a slicing gesture across my neck with my free hand.
"I know that's meant to be a threat, but I can't help but think of it in...a slightly different way," Lucas flashes a sly grin and leans nearer to me, just as I realize what I said.
"Oh my gosh, stop." I try to punch Lucas' arm, but he catches my fist easily and pulls me closer to him.
Which makes me fall over. Flat on my face.
And in a attempt to save me from face-planting myself into the ground, Lucas throws my project to the side and trips over air. So now we're both on the floor and the pieces of my Art project are scattered all over the floor.
"Um, that didn't go the way I planned it to..." Lucas trails off.
"Clearly." I force myself to stand on my two wobbly legs and offer Lucas a hand up. Both of us stare at the thousand pieces of the cardboard robot I was supposed to present to the class tomorrow.
The second Lucas gets up, he dashes around the hallway, trying to pick up the pieces of cardboard and plastic.
"What are you doing?"
"Possibly saving your Art grade." He gathers back all the materials and beckons for me to follow him back to his classroom, which is right next to where we were.
"I'm no Einstein, but I know how to glue pieces of cardboard together. Come on, if we hurry we can finish before the school closes up for today."
About two hours later, and we finally finish it. It almost looks exactly the same as the original project.
"Looks good," I say as I give Lucas a high-five, "Thanks for helping me fix it."
"No problem, it was my fault it got destroyed in the first place." He hoists his backpack over his shoulder and nods at the door. "Now, let's get out of here. I'll drive you home."
********************************************
"Well, look who finally decided to show up." Sera mumbles without a glance the second I open the door. While we were driving back, I got hungry so we went over to the nearest KFC. Somehow after that, we ended up at Walmart and got carried away debating whether or not we should purchase Animal Crossing for our Nintendo Switches. FYI, we decided to get it so we could visit each other's islands.
"Where were you anyway? I thought you would be with Dami but she came over to drop a book she borrowed from you and told me she didn't see you after school," Sera asks, finally looking up from her phone.
"Well...I was with Lucas. And we bought Animal Crossing."
Sera stares at me with her 'really?' face and shrugs, "Sounds fun. I hope you still remember our promise, though."
"Don't worry, we're just friends," I say with a smile, only for my smile to disappear almost instantly when I take in what I just said.
