Subject Verb Agreement

Singular - May S ang verb         Plural - Walang S ang verb

E.g

In the province, the children (     play   ) in the yard all day

children is the subject which is plural, kaya ang verb ay plural at walang S

1. Tanggalable Phrases

e.g 

Ruby, one of the cruz sisters, (runs) the family business.

si Ruby ang subject hindi yung sisters , kaya sya tanggalable, pwede mo alisin yung

, one of the cruz sisters, at  buo parin yung thought dun sa sentence

Ruby (runs) the family business.

Ruby is singular kaya yung verb is singular din

2. Prepositional Phrases

pag prepositional lagi nating itatanong para ba kanino yung action

e.g

The airplanes in the hanger (__are    ) schedule for repair.

Ano ang irerepair? airplanes hindi yung hanger

since airplanes are plural,  ARE ang gagamitin natin.

3. There and Here

pag nakita mo ito sa unahan ng sentence madalas susundan muna ito ng VERB bago yung SUBJECT

e.g

There (     are    ) Candies in the drawer.

Since ang Candies ay plural,  ARE ang gagamitin natin.

4.  Each, Every, NO (singular)

pag nakita mo ang mga ito sa sentences, ang verb ay Singular

e.g

Every child in this world of ours  (  deserves  ) a good home.

5. Multiple Subjects

obviously pag multiple subject tas ginagamitan ng conjunction na AND plural ang gagamitin

e.g

Reading, writing and drawing (__are   ) my hobbies.

para madaling tandaan isipin mo na yung AND ay plus

reading plus writing plus drawing = 3 subjects kaya plural at plural din ang verb na gagamitin

6. Indefinite Pronoun - 

nakadepende sa gagamiting Indefinite pronoun ang verb

kung single Indefinite , single verb. Kung plural indefinite, plural verb

e.g

Fewer (are) smoking these days.

fewer - plural indefinite 

Everyone in her class (knows) that she isnt adjusting well.

everyone- singular indefinite

7. Either , Or, Neither nor

yung malapit sa verb ang masusunod kung plural o singular

e.g

Raul and Christine (are) inlove. Neither the cast nor the Phantom (is) aware of the fact

Raul plus Christine is equal to 2 subjects thats why ginamit natin yung ARE

Neither the cast nor the Phantom, ang kukunin nating subject ay yung malapit sa verb w/c is Phantom not the cast. Phantom is singular kaya IS ang ginamit natin.

8. Proper Nouns

e.g

The Beatles (__is  _) a perfect example of timeless band.

The Beatles - Proper noun though may S sya , since iisang band lang naman pinaguusapan SINGULAR sya at magiging singular din ang verb.,

9. Parts

e.g

Half of the city is ruins.

half is part, city is noun which is singular kaya IS ang gagamitin

e.g2

80% of the citizens are left homeless.

80% is part, citizens plural noun kaya ARE ang gagamitin.

Therefore kung gagamit trayo ng parts sa sentences nakadepende parin ang Verb sa Noun na sinundan ng pArts
