KAI HAD ALWAYS been praised for being highly adaptable, and as such, it hadn't taken him too long to get all settled at the LAPD — to some, it wasn't such a positive thing, though. By his second day on the job, the desk assigned to him was covered in files and paperwork that he was yet to finish, not to mention the astray candy wrappers in unimaginable places. Nevertheless, he had successfully landed more than enough jokes amidst his co-workers, and the sight of valued deputies wheezing at the flannel-clad man was bound to send Chloe Decker reeling. Like a storm of concentrated sugar and silly quips, Kai had made himself fully known to the precinct and some were taking it less well than others."Dude, how does your desk already look like this?" Izzy was rounding the corner with a horrified expression, and looking up from his computer where he was balancing a half-full report and a paused game of Candy Crush, Kai feigned innocence with a smile. He was more than good at his job — when that meant catching bad guys and solving the toughest of cases, that was. When it came to sitting down and typing out one complicated word after another, he tended to be less enthusiastic.
"It's my natural habitat!" Kai defended himself, even though he couldn't stop Izzy from sighing out loud and beginning to arrange the scattered files into neat piles. "Hey, did you hear what Pierce said a while back? I kinda zoned out", he continued to hum out loud, not minding the woman as he quietly clicked away from the document full of red, underlined words and proceeded to switch colorful candies with one another.
Before Izzy could say a thing, Lucifer was swooping past the redhead and landing a seat on the corner of Kai's desk, clearly intrigued by the detective. "Nothing worthwhile, I presume", he huffed out with an eye roll at the mention of Pierce, and that was something Kai picked up on quickly — and so before Lucifer could say anything more, the Nolan was leaning back in his seat and reviewing the two friends with curiosity.
"No one seems to like the guy. I mean I get— and hold on, what is it you do, exactly? Other than look like... that", he questioned Lucifer with shaky laughter and knitted eyebrows, yet to figure out what purpose the man served, exactly. Though, that wasn't to say that his presence around the precinct wasn't entertaining enough.
As if offended, Lucifer gestured at himself with flagrant hands and scoffed. "Well, I'm the Devil, of course! What detective wouldn't want the former Lord of Hell as their right-hand man, eh?" he elaborated, before pointing a finger at someone across the room with a proud smile adorning his lips. And as soon as Kai had followed his lead and found Chloe practically glaring at them from her own desk, he cracked a grin of his own and dramatically waved each of his fingers one by one.
"He's a Civilian Consultant. And the Lieutenant is a pierce of work. The best thing you can do is do what he says and suck it up", Izzy grumbled, partly to herself as she scooped up Kai's trash and tossed them into the can he had failed to utilize.
