"I do not like other people touching my things, so I sprinkle a little gold dust on my blueprints," I said as I held up a small bottle containing a clear looking fluid. "In this bottle I keep aqueous stannous chloride or tin(II) chloride which is used for strengthening ruby glass as well as act as a chemical marker for the presence of gold..."

I poured the fluid over Esmeralda's hands. Her hands turned into a dark purple color.

A moment of silence and then loud whispering erupted among the crowd of onlookers.

As soon as I released Esmeralda's hands, Esmeralda quickly pulled her hand back in a fluster.

"Esmeralda...I expected better from you," the Judge with the veil said.

"Your results will be invalid for this year's contest," the elder Judge said.

"There is no rule about stealing in a Witch's competition, but if you do, you should never be foolish enough to get caught," Queen Geruscha said with a smirk.

Esmeralda ran away from the stage right after Queen Geruscha said that.

What a cruel Queen...

"Without a doubt, your projects were hands down the best ones in the contest," Queen Geruscha said as she placed a gold medal over my neck. "Close call! If you had not been able to prove yourself, you would have lost the contest to your own invention."

Queen Geruscha knew it was my invention the whole time which makes what she said to Esmeralda earlier even more sardonic.

"If anything, I am happy that I got to showcase two of my inventions and have my skills evaluated during the contest," I said with a smile.

"On top of getting first prize, I would like to take you in as my apprentice," Queen Geruscha said.

My solar invention was immediately put to used to replace the street lamps around the community. I gained respect instantly once I was in a position recognized by Queen Geruscha. I found people flocking to me no matter where I went. They would try to make small talk with me or even ask me how to look or improve their inventions.

Esmeralda never showed herself since that day. She remained as a recluse after the position she worked so hard to obtain was stolen from her. Even her stooges turned on her and went to curry my favor. It was expected that I would be the next Queen from how Queen Geruscha chose new as her apprentice.

Even though I was her apprentice, I did not do anything particularly different or special. All that changed was that I was now accompanying Queen Geruscha more often and was even allowed to watch her make potions. She also did not try to be a mentor much to me either. All she did was answer my questions if I ever asked her about something.

"I would like to appoint you as the next Queen candidate," Queen Geruscha said.

"How will things change for me?" I asked.

"Your authority will be second to mine. Therefore, all the girls here will listen to you," Queen Geruscha said.

"What will it take for you to listen to me? You still have not told me what I want to know yet...and I mean everything," I said.

"Amuse me," Queen Geruscha said with a bright smile.

What would this twisted person find amusing?

Within just a year of me entering the Witch's Forest, I was about to go through the initiation ceremony of becoming the next Queen Candidate.

It was a simple ceremony where I would just kneel in front of Queen Geruscha and have her place her hands on my shoulders and recite a chant in some ancient language.
