"Alright you fuck nuggets," Shadis bellowed, "We are going to be hooking you up to these to practice the balance portion of the 3DMG! If you can't do this, you fail!"
Using the full scale model was actually a lot harder than the ones at Eagan's house. For one thing, I was now about 10 feet off the ground.
However, I kept my balance. Somewhat. At least I did a lot less wobbling than I did the first time.
Evaluators were walking by with a clipboard. Once one had passed by me, the trainee lowered me to the ground.
"Okay, down you go," the trainee said. "Next?"
"Hey Del," Jonathan pulled me aside. "Look."
He pointed to the girl, who Jean attempted to flirt with, gracefully dangling from the wires.
"Well look at her not giving a fuck," I stated.
"Lower your voice Del," Eagan hushed her. "Remember the last time you cussed-"
"I didn't forget," I interrupted. "I just don't like not cussing, or listening, or Shadis."
"Del-" Jonathan sighed.
"But seriously, how can someone be instantly that good?" I asked.
"Apparently her name is Mikasa," Jonathan said. "Mikasa Ackerman."
"Guys, look!" Eagan said pointing at the post on the far left. A kid was hanging upside down and being yelled at by Shadis.
"Well we know who isn't going to make it to graduation-" I started.
"Del, some guy is staring at you weird," Jonathan stated. "Casually turn around to look at the idiot again, then look slightly to the left. He's the blond kid adjacent from the second post."
I did all what Jonathan said. The instant I glanced over to the boy, he turned away. I turned right back to my friends. "Have you been staring right back at him this entire time?"
Jonathan looked at the ground. "Maybe."
"Okay, who's the idiot now?" I stated.
"But he was staring at you intensely!" Jonathan said.
"So you had to make things awkward and stare intensely right back?"
"But... Well... yeah," Jonathan replied.
"Next!" The trainee called.
Eagan stepped up to the platform.
She was not even raised fully in the air when she wobbled.
"Hey Eagan!" I shouted at her. "I thought you would do a lot better!"
"I'm trying!" She shouted back.
"Not hard enough! You look like you're bouncing!"
"I have an idea!" Eagan shouted. "Why don't you shut up?"
"Hey! Being the asshole is my thing!" I shouted back. Ironically, provoking Eagan actually made her balance well.
I had a victorious smile on my face until a shadow engulfed me. I turned around and saw a very unamused, tall, old man. Emphasis on the unamused part.
"And why are you yelling at the trainees?" Shadis asked.
"I was encouraging my friend," I answered.
"That didn't sound very encouraging to me!" He shouted. "And why aren't you saluting? I talk to you, you salute."
I saluted.
