"I and your dad will be going on a trip. Granny will take care of you while we're gone okay?." Mum told me. But how can they go on a trip on my birthday. It wasn't fair.
"Why do you have to go today? Its my birthday" I frowned, crossing my arms.
"We just got a job honey. We need this to give you the life you've always dreamed of" she smiled, and caressed my hair, but I pulled away from her touch.
"Don't go! Not today at least. If you love me you would stay" I begged her as dad came to stand beside her with their boxes all set.
"We love you honey, so much. But if we don't go today we stand a chance of loosing the job" dad tried to make me understand, but I didn't want to
"Fine then" I looked away from them. "You can go. I don't care. I don't even need you. I can live my life without the both of you. Go ahead and leave me alone! I will always remember how you both left me to celebrate my birthday all by myself" I huffed and ran into my little room, I slammed the door behind me to shush their voices.
"Baby?" I Mum's finger's gently knocked on the old wooden door.
"Baby please open up. Let's talk" she cooed, but I sat angrily on my bed, as I glared at a crack on the wall."I don't need you!" I yelled.
After a minute of silence, I heard a sigh of defeat and I thought I had won"Maybe they wouldn't leave after all" I thought to myself...a smile forming on my face.
"Okay honey...we just need you to know that wherever we are, or what ever place we are, just know that we love you" I heard a faint sob from mother.
So they really are going to go?
"We love you with our lives and whatever we do is for your happiness only." dad added. "We'll go now okay? Don't worry, we'll be back soon. We love you" I heard faint footsteps and I knew they had gone.
"I hate you" I tried to yell, but it came out as a broken sob instead. "I hate you guys so much" the rest of the day was spent in my room with me crying my eyes out.
Grandma tried getting me out a few times, but she gave up after ten failed attempts.
"My child, come have lunch, you didn't even have breakfast. They would come back right? Stop crying" she tried to cheer me up. Grandma was 67 at the time , but she looked older since she had been working hard her whole life.
The sun had begun to set, so I got up, packed my long black hair in a pony tail and wore a dress my mum bought me a week ago.
"At least Alex would make me happy."
I thought to myself.I walked all the way to Alex's house, which was three blocks from ours.
I made sure my hair and clothes were in order , before I pressed the door bell. After some minutes of waiting and still no one answers, I press again.
Few minutes later, Alex's mum came out, looking around for the person who pressed the doorbell, before her eyes settled on me, grinning from ear to ear. She was such a beautiful lady with her curly brown hair and red painted lips."Good morning ma'am" I greet her.
"You?" She gave me an irritated look as she scanned my body. "What do you want?" She snapped.
"Is Alex home?" I tried to look into the house but she noticed my gesture as she stepped out and closed the door gently behind her.
"Why do you care if my son is home or not ?" she tilted her head and narrowed her eyes at me. She looked like a black scary wolf with that thick black line on her eyes.
