Chapter 24 - Someone He Loved

Weeks passed in a blur, I was back at work, Alex has started to become distant again, our arguments are getting out of hand.

"And where do you think you are going?" I asked him this evening, when he was preparing to go out.

"Aria please!" He snapped. "Not again!"

"Not again? Tell me where are you going? Who is this girl you're seeing?"

"No one! Aria stop it! Stop bugging me!" He angrily replied, as he shoved me away from his front.
I angrily got up.

"Stop lying to me Alex! You are frustrating me! And if I find out you're seeing another woman, I swear Alexander you will regret it"

He turns back to me and grabs me not-so-gently by the shoulders.
"I am not seeing anyone! Frustrating? What do you know about frustration? You are frustrating my life and everything I fucking do! You make a fuss out of everything! You are so annoying and I'm getting tired of this"

"Getting tired of what? What are you getting tired of? Huh?" I asked, even though I know I wasn't ready to hear his reply.

He didn't reply, he just walked away from me and I didn't bother stopping him. I didn't want him to blurt out what I didn't want to hear.

It's 12am right now and I am lying next to an empty bed.
Yes, Alex didn't come back from wherever place he went.
I managed to force myself to sleep.

The next morning, I call Nora over, I have missed my best friend so much and it feels like we're losing our bond.
I really need someone to talk to right now.

I hear a knock on the door and I go to get it.
"Nora" I pull her into a hug.
"Aria. What's the matter?" She holds me by the shoulders after we break out from the hug. I gesture for us to go inside.
We walk into the house and take our seats in the living.
"Here" I hand her a glass of wine "Have Something to drink first"
After taking a sip, I blurt it out.

"Alex and I are having issues"
She stiffens.

"What?"
"Yes. We have been quarreling for months now" I sigh, running my arms through my hair.

"Why? What is it about?" She asks, concern laced in her voice.

"I suspect he has a mistress now"
She stays silent. "I know, I'm also shocked, I never believed Alex could cheat on me" I continue.
Silence.
"Nora are you here?"
"Yes." She snaps out of whatever she was thinking. I'm just surprised...Alex? Cheat? How could he do such a thing? are you really sure about this? You might just be paranoid" she says.

Am I?

"No" I shake my head. "I'm not. I thought I was, but I'm sure. He's been acting up lately. I swear if I find out he is, I will make him pay, that slut and him"

"No Aria, that's not how to go about this, you have to calm down" she wraps her arm round my shoulders and I lean on her.

"Then how do you want me to go about it?" I ask.

"I don't know, but don't let your anger get the best of you. Sometimes, he might not actually be cheating, maybe he's just overwhelmed by work. Sometimes, it can cause stress-"
"I am a doctor and I work a lot, I am always busy, but I still create time for my family, why can't he?"
I snap.
"Don't worry, I'll talk to him."
I look at her.
"You will really do that for me?" I smile.
"Yes."
"That's why I love you. I don't know what I'll do without you bestie" I engulf her in a bone-cracking hug.

Nora and I spent the whole day together, we talked about everything and nothing. We also talked about her boyfriend Williams. According to her, they are taking things slow, since she doesn't want to rush into marriage and I admire her for that.
