Chapter 38 - Sweetener

Aria's POV

Flipping through the pages of some documents, trying to double check some things, since Carl wants me to give a clearer explanation on our business deal.

"Miss Belleville, Mr Walton and associates are here already" my secretary informs me.

"Uh..okay, direct them to the conference room, I'll join them soon" I say as I begin to round up.

I adjust my clothes before making my way to the door

"You can do this Aria, you can face him" I take in a deep breath before opening the door and walking out.

I begin to imagine different scenario in my head.

"Hello Carl"
No
"Hey"
Uh-uh
"Hey there"

Stop acting foolish Aria, it was just a kiss, it doesn't even mean anything to him.
He still sees you as his friend like you do him.
Right?
Yeah right!

I check my wristwatch, only to find out I'm 9 minutes late already, that alone increased my nervousness.

If I screw this up, they might just change their minds without looking back.
Carl has so many business ventures and this is not even as important as most of his businesses, he might not think twice about changing his mind.
Talk more of his associates.
I take in a deep breath before opening the door.

"Good morning everyone, My deepest apologies for arriving late. Well, let's go straight into business shall we?"

Nora's POV

"Hey, Nora" The warden calls me.

"What?!" I rudely reply without sparing her a glance.

"Don't use that tone with me young lady! since you're being so stubborn, I came here to take you to your new cell."

"What?" I abruptly whip my head towards her.

"Now that got your attention" she let out an evil chuckle.

For a moment I felt relieved, maybe that was a joke.

"What do you mean by 'take me to my new cell'?" I air quote.

"You have constantly been bullying your fellow inmates, so in other to tame you, you will be transfered to a separate room."

"Room?" I raise my brows.

A room! Not a cell.

Finally, I'll be free from always looking at these ugly looking bars.
I might just be much more comfy in this sale room, who knows?

"Yes room. Are you ready to go or not"

I shrugged.
"Not Like I have a choice in this any way"

"Good" she rubbed her palms together, grinning at me.
This should be the first time I have ever seen her grin, different from her usual evil facial reactions.

I mustered all the courage to stand up, since I had been brutally beaten few days ago.
Red patches where all over my body, a black eye must be surrounding my left eye, from the look of things.

Finally, I'll be free from this shit hole.

Few minutes later, we arrived in front of a black door. After fumbling with the keys for some seconds, I heard the clicking of the door, notifying us that the door has been opened.
I didn't have time to process what happened, but the last thing I saw was the door shutting behind me as I fell to the ground.
