8. Awakening

Namjewel looked Jungkook directly in his eyes with glowing brown orbs making the boy's blood run as cold as ice.

"Get him." the leader ordered, murderously calm.

And on command, the gems sprung into action.

Fear forced adrenaline to begin to course through Jungkook's veins. On instinct, he turned on his heels in one swift motion and started to sprint the hardest he'd ever ran in his life.

The gems were stunned at how fast he was, the distance between him and them growing by the second.

Sugilite's purple eyes were blazing as he transformed into a cheetah to close the gap. His short stubby human legs and arms were replaced with 4 powerful, purple legs and his body was now rippling with purple muscles that specialized in speed. His purple paws were moving so quickly through the sand, it looked as if they weren't even touching the ground. His flying figure was a mere blur to the other gems as he effortlessly caught up to JK.

Jungkook had no time to try to register how in the world it was possible for a purple cheetah to be behind him. He just kept running as hard as he could, but it was futile. Inevitably, Sugilite caught up to him

The air was ripped from his lungs as he was tackled from behind by Sugilite. Their combined momentum sent them tumbling forwards in a blurred ball of limbs.

Jungkook cried out in pain as his back hit the beach multiple times. When they finally settled, Sugilite had JK pinned to the sand and was baring his sharp teeth at the boy, glaring at him through furious feline eyes.

At that moment, his mind was whirring with the realization he might die when an ominous click was heard in JK's head. This in turn caused a chain reaction of flowing, firey energy that he for some reason could actually feel moving throughout his body. It burned in his veins and heated up his blood that had long been frozen over by fear, sending the blood rushing everywhere it was supposed to be.

It was scary, but it also felt strangely good. He'd never felt anything like it in his entire life. In the energy's wake, the pain vanished and the fatigue he should've been feeling disappeared along with it. The only sensation that remained was... power.

Sugilite's eyes went wide as the boy's eyes and diamond necklace began to glow red.

Just like his own eyes and gem.

They were right. This wasn't just a mere human. He HAD to be a gem.

Everything that happened next felt like an outer body experience to JK.

He'd never been the strongest, fastest or most athletic, but it seemed all of those things just flooded his mind and body and came to him naturally, making his body react without him having to tell it to do so.

His leg raised and kicked Sugilite violently, sending him several meters across the beach.

Mid air, he transformed back to normal then landed seconds later with a loud OOF in a cloud of displaced sand.

There was a stutter in the other gems step watching their teammate get flicked away like a bug by what was supposed to be a human. But then, they snapped out of it and pursued JK vehemently one after another.
