__Scourge and Sonic managed to get everyone out of the building after some of the Freedom Fighters came along to help. Luckily no one in the building had died, but some had very serious injuries. Scourge couldn't help but feel weird the entire time. This was his first time saving other people. He knew this was the right thing, but he wasn't comfortable with it.
__Sonic was speaking with one of the people from the building, a woman sitting on a gurney with a blanket around her. Sonic had his arms crossed, but he was looking at her with worry in his eyes. "What happened in the building?"
__"There was an explosion," The woman replied weakly.
__"I know that much," Sonic remarked. "I mean what did you guys do to make the explosion?"
__"It was an accident in the lab," The woman explained. "We were making tests with some chemicals with caution, but it apparently wasn't enough."
__Sonic nodded and went over to Sally to talk to her. Scourge went over as well and listened to what they were saying.
__"A failed lab experiment," Sonic told her.
__"Of course it was," Sally muttered. She then shook her head. "Did everyone make it out all right?"
__"Yes, everyone's out of the building. We made sure to double-check."
__Scourge slowly turned his head to look at the burning building. The firefighters were working to put the fire out. This made Scourge wonder something. If the world has all these kinds of people, then why doesn't the military fight back Eggman and all those other bad guys? Why do they have to rely on Sonic all the damn time? Scourge stifled a snort of annoyance as he looked back at Sonic and Sally. Sally was already walking away, so Scourge took this time to speak to Sonic. "Um, Sonic? What were you going to ask me at the pond?"
__Sonic whipped his head around to face Scourge. His narrowed eyes and frown gave away he was annoyed. "Why are you asking me that now? This isn't the time!"
__Scourge just flattened his ears and looked away. He heard Sonic sigh and walk away. Scourge looked back and saw him speaking with one of the firefighters. Scourge looked around the area two times before he decided he wanted to leave. Everyone was fine, so he didn't need to be there. Not that they needed me in the first place.__The first thing Scourge did when he got home was sit next to Buck on the couch. Buck was panting happily and running in circles on the couch before he laid down and set his head on Scourge's lap. He let out a sigh as he looked up at Scourge with his big yellow eyes. Scourge just stared down at him as he started rubbing his head. "I don't suppose you know what Sonic was planning?"
__Buck's only reply was a heavy sigh.
__Scourge giggled as he shook his head. "Didn't think so." He then reached for the remote on the coffee table, being careful not to squish Buck's head, and turned on the T.V. The news was already on and talking about the explosion in the building. Scourge didn't want to hear any of it so he switched channels until there was an anime playing that he tolerated. He set the remote down beside him and continued to rub Buck's head as he watched.
__After some time, the front door opened and Scourge turned his head to see Sonic had finally come home. Scourge looked back at the T.V. as Sonic sat down next to him. He didn't seem happy.
__"Go ahead and hit me," Scourge muttered.
__Sonic sighed before he lightly slapped Scourge's arm. Scourge knew Sonic would've hit him harder, but with Buck here he didn't want to rile him up. Sonic crossed his arms as he glared at Scourge. "Why did you leave?"
__"None of you needed me," Scourge replied half bitterly. "You never did."
__"Of course we needed you," Sonic retorted lightly. "I would've been the only fast one there if you weren't with me."
__"Whatever."
__Sonic was silent for a few seconds before he stood up and stayed in front of Scourge. "Are you saying you didn't want to help?"
__Scourge forced himself to look up at Sonic. "That's not what I'm saying at all!"
__"Then what are you saying?"
__Scourge crossed his arms as he looked away. "I'm not you," He muttered.
__Sonic's face had softened as he leaned towards Scourge. "What do you mean?"
__Scourge looked up at Sonic. "You're the one everyone depends on, not me. I've seen the way people look at me. They're expecting from me now what they expect from you since we're together."
__"You're not letting them get to you, are you?" Sonic asked worriedly.
__"It's not them!" Scourge retorted. "It's me! I do want to help. I do want to change, but I don't like it!"
__Sonic narrowed his eyes as he crossed his arms. "No one is asking you to change, Scourge. I don't want you to change if you're uncomfortable with it."
__"No!" Scourge began pulling on his ears as he shook his head. "You're not understanding!"
__"Understanding what!?" Sonic exclaimed. "You need to tell me!"
__Scourge let go of his ears when Buck sat up and grabbed his sleeves to pull his arm away. He flattened his ears as he wrapped his arms around the border collie. "You wouldn't even understand."
__Sonic shook his head. "How do you know that if you don't tell me? What's going on with you? You're worrying me."
__"Just forget it," Scourge muttered. "It's not important."
__Sonic gritted his teeth as he threw his arms up. "Of course it is! This is making you upset!" He crossed his arms again as he looked at Scourge with pleading eyes. "I just want to help."
__"It's fine. I'm over it now," Scourge lied. He let go of the dog as he perked his ears. "Now can you please tell what we were doing at the pond?"
__Sonic narrowed his eyes as he straightened himself. "I don't feel that's fair right now." He then walked away and went upstairs.
__"Sonic, wait!" Scourge got up and followed after Sonic. Sonic had gone into the bedroom and shut the door. Scourge tried opening it but it was locked. He then started knocking on the door. "Sonic, please! I'm sorry!" He slammed his forehead against the door and growled at himself. Now you've gone and done it, you stupid bastard! He sighed and went back downstairs. He decided he was going to find Rouge.
