The next morning, at training, Millie makes sure not to act so cold to Finn that Kim and Luc will notice, but not so warm that he will misconstrue her kindness for fondness. They aren't friends and she doesn't want to be but she senses that Finn thinks they are and that needs to stop.
After three hours of many forced laughs, artificial smiles and a few very real attacks on Finn, Millie hears the words she's been looking forward to all day.
"We're done for today guys! Another great session." Kim tells them.
Finn turns to her with this weird smile he's had almost all day which makes her roll her eyes internally. At least she hopes it's just internally. She assumes he must have had a good night with that girl which only serves to compound her annoyance toward him.
"Awesome job, Millie, but I think I'm getting closer to taking you down." he says in a rather upbeat tone.
She throws her ex a sidelong look, "I think there's something you don't seem to understand about this relationship."
His smile drops, "What. . .what do you mean?"
She makes sure Luc and Kim are far enough away before she lowers her eyelids and says in a harsher tone than Finn is probably expecting, "We're not friends, Finn. You've made sure of that." her eyes narrow on him with a soul piercing glare that makes him raise his eyebrows, "We're co-workers, and that is all. I don't need nor want to have little pleasant conversations with you."
He squints at her, clearly confused about this seemingly sudden iciness that isn't sudden to her. She tried to play it nice before but she just can't. He doesn't deserve her niceties whether she promised them or not. He looks hurt until a panic flashes across his face and he leans his body forward, "Wait—W-what do you mean, 'you made sure of that' ?"
She scoffs and looks heavenward while crossing her arms. He can't be serious right now. How stupid does he think she is? "Noah saw you last night."
He looks confused, "He—okay, I know he saw me," he shakes his head, " but what did he tell you."
She notices his chest rising and falling faster as his cheeks take on a rosy shade. She thinks some bastardized form of guilt must be sinking in.
Good. She thinks. Let him squirm.
"He told Sadie that he saw you going into the designated 'bang room' of the party, so don't try and play coy and act like you don't know what I'm talking about."
Finn let's out a harsh laugh then mumbles under his breath, "That little shit."
"Excuse me?!" She snaps, then looks behind her, remembering that Kim and Luc are still in the room but is pleasantly surprised to see that they actually both left.
Good. Millie thinks again. Now she doesn't have to hold back.
"Noah," she clarifies loudly, "didn't do anything wrong! He texted Sadie when he saw you go into that room. Sadie didn't want to tell me, but hey! I'm nosey, so I found out, and—"
Finn suddenly holds up a finger as if to make a point and she snaps her mouth shut, flaring her nostrils as he says, "Hold on. . .Why exactly are you mad about this? If I had done something—which to clarify, I didn't—then why would that matter to you?" He raises his eyebrows.
