"AWESOME! Yes, oh my God, thank you so much!" Finn spits out excitedly, probably bursting the speakers on the other end of this phone call. He's beyond happy that things finally seem to be looking up for him. This past year and a half has been torturous between work, and what happened with her, but finally he can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
"Yes, we're excited too, Finn," the man on the other end of the line says. The man being Luc Zamoyski, the director for the film he has been auditioning for. He hasn't worked with him before, and this director auditions people differently than everyone he's previously worked with. The weirdest part is that Finn has no idea who else has been auditioning for this movie alongside him. It's been all single person auditions—no chemistry readings or anything.
"Scythe is going to be huge, and not just because of the story, but the cast we're putting together is becoming quite the star studded line up." the director continues.
"Sweet. . . That's great to hear." Finn is pleasantly surprised and genuinely excited to find out who his co-stars will be. Likeable co-stars make for better content, not to mention a more enjoyable workplace.
"Yeah, want to hear a few of the names?" Luc asks.
"Well, yeah, for sure."
"Alright, well so far we've got about five of the major roles cast. You, obviously, playing Rowan, then we've got David Thewlis as Scythe Faraday, Scythe Curie will be played by Emma Thompson, Justin Baldoni will be Scythe Goddard, and one second . . . I know we picked the actress who will play Citra, I just have to find the paper."
Finn anxiously waits a few seconds while hearing the shuffling of paper from the other side of the call. Citra is his character's love interest and while his own heart isn't exactly a well-stretched muscle as of late, he enjoys playing a boy-in-love on screen.
"Ah- here it is. Oh! You'll be excited to know that you'll be working alongside an old friend of yours! The lovely Miss Millie Bobby Brown will be helming the role of Citra Terranova."
Hearing her name takes the wind from Finn's lungs as well as a sucker punch to the gut would have, making him fall back into his desk chair. His stomach sinks to what feels like the middle of the earth and for a good five seconds he can't see or hear anything. All he can do is think back to the last time he talked to Millie almost two years ago.
:::::::::::
Standing at the entrance to Millies's bedroom, Finn fights his instinct to push past her older sister, Paige, who is blocking him with an icy glare and a rigid arm.
"You should probably just go Finn." she grits, gesturing stiffly in the general direction of the house's front door.
"But—"
"Now."
He retreats back a couple steps, his back gently grazing against the wall behind him as he takes in his surroundings, not wanting to follow orders.
The sounds of raindrops hitting the roof and Millie's parents arguing two rooms down fill his ears, adding to the twisting feeling in his stomach that tells him something is very wrong.
He can smell vanilla and the warmth of a hot oven. He assumes someone is baking something down in the kitchen, probably in an effort to improve Millie's mood but it's obviously not working.
It's getting late but Finn needs to understand. He needs to understand why Millie is so upset. He needs to understand why it's him being pegged as the bad guy.
