Chapter 28

Later that afternoon, Asia thought it was best for her to get some rest and for Jamal to continue working. Suddenly the kids came home from school as Asia was lounging in the recliner.

"Hey", Asia said

"Hey mom", Jakobi said as he quickly walked to the stairs.

"Um you okay? Why you running?", Asia asked.

"I do not wanna be in the middle of this", he said as he walked upstairs.

Nicole comes in the house next with a smile on her face.

Asia looks at her.

"Hello beautiful mother" she said.

"What did you do? Or what do you want?", Asia asked.

"Okay so before you get mad, Tre is on his way to the door", she said

"Tre?", Asia asked

"The boy I was telling you about", Nicole said.

"No ma'am" Asia said.

Nicole looks at Tre. "And here he is", Nicole said as Tre walks in the house.

Tre comes in looking nervous. "Hello Mrs. White", he said.

"Carter", Nicole mumbled correcting him.

"Ms. Carter. My apologies", he said.

Asia was silent looking at him.

"I'm Tre", he said

"Sit down Tre", Asia said.

Tre sits on the couch

"Now I told Nicole she can NOT have a boyfriend", Asia said.

Tre looks at Nicole and Nicole looks down.

"Now I'm going tell you this. Her dad is on my side with this and her dad is a bite more out spoken and a lot crazier than me", Asia said. "So... if you're really interested in my daughter and if you have good intentions for her. You'd meet him first and not me"

"Mom, no", Nicole said. "You know how dad it"

"And you know what I told you. Guess what you didn't listen so now I'm going to tell him that you went behind my back", Asia said.

"Mom you had your first boyfriend when you were 16", Nicole said

"Yes and I got my heartbroken then and I won't let that happen to you", Asia said.

"I assure you that I have no bad intentions", Tre said.

"I assure you that is as talking to my daughter Tre", Asia said as she looks at him.

"I'm sorry ma'am", he said.

"Mom. In order for me to learn about people how they are. Learn from my mistakes... I need to go through trial and error", Nicole said.

Asia looks at Nicole.

"Please mom", Nicole said. "At this point, he's the only thing making me smile.. even before Makayla and I stopped being friends.. since freshman year"

"I'm not going to make the final decision, your dad is", Asia said to Nicole.

Asia turned to Tre. "And I'm sorry for being rude to you just now", Asia said

"It's okay", Tre said.

Asia looks at Nicole. "Should you call him or shall I?", she asked.

"I guess you mom", Nicole said

Asia calls Josh and Josh tells her that he won't be able to come til tomorrow. So once Asia got her strength back she drove Tre to his house.

Later that night Jamal came over to give Asia and the kids dinner.

He knocks on the door and Jakobi opens it. He looks at the food in Jamal's hand.

"I hope you brought enough for everybody", Jakobi said.

"Of course I did", Jamal said.

Jakobi daps him up. " that's what's up", Jakobi said.

Jamal walks in and it's a little girl that comes in behind him.

Jakobi looks at her. "You have a daughter?", Jakobi asked.

"Yea.. her name is Kimberly. Kimberly this is Jakobi", Jamal said,

"Hey Kim", Jakobi said,

Kimberly waves at him.

"She's a bit shy", Jamal said. "But where's your mom? How she doing ?"

"Good to me", Jakobi said.

Asia comes downstairs and smiles.

"I knew I smelt the food", Asia said. "And I knew I sensed some beautiful in the houses", she said looking at Kimberly. "You must be miss pretty Kimberly. I've heard so much about you"

Kimberly looks at her with a straight face.

"Kim?", Jamal said.

Kimberly rolls her eyes and fake smiles. "Hey", Kimberly said.

"Mmm", Jakobi said as she got the bags of food out of Jamal's hand and walks to the kitchen.

"Kim why don't you help Jakobi with the food", Jamal said

"Okay", Kimberly said as she followed Jakobi.

"I'm so sorry about that. She doesn't like to share her dad", he said. "She's been a little mad that I've been going out a lot lately"

"I see.. well I mean my twins were like that when they were younger", Asia said.

"But don't feel bad. She does that to every girl she meets", Jamal said. "Not that I've dated a whole lot of women"

"I get it honey", she said

Jamal nods. "I see you're feeling well", he said

"Yea", she said in a soft voice.

Jamal studies her facial expression.

"What?", she asked.

"Nothing", he said. "Food's getting cold. Let's eat"

"Okay", she said. "Nicole! Food is ready!", she yelled as she walked to the kitchen and sighed.

Jamal grabs her arm and turns her to him gently. " you sure you good?", Jamal asked.

"It's just so much going on. I just... I don't know. Seems like the only thing going good right now is you and me...and then even with you things seem too good to be true...growing up I had a difficult life. I've been through difficult things... At one point I thought.. well I guess this is the life for me...but you've brightened it up and showed me different", she said. "You're nothing like the guys I've dated in the past.. and if you knew all the baggage I've carried.. you probably wouldn't be with me"

"Asia listen.. I don't care about the past. Im with you because of the present and the future. When I first tried to flirt with you, you were a bit cruel to a brother", he said with smile. "But I could tell that was just your guard building up but you relaxed yourself and let it down. I knew then that things happened to you in the past that made you be that way. But that didn't stop me. Why? Because I felt a connection and a great one and I was right", he said.

Asia looked down.

"But hey.. you can make your life so much better if you try to talk about... talk about whatever is on your mind and maybe it'll make it less heavy. I just wanna know that I'm all ears and no judgement", he said. "And I'm ready to listen whenever you're ready to talk. Besides I don't wanna trigger some thing that I don't know about"

Asia nods.

"Now let's eat", Jamal said.
