We continued walking amid the darkness, without another word. We'd walked so much I'd almost lost all feeling in my legs. Then I fell to the floor. Zinzan must've felt tired too since he sat down as well. Then I felt something wet drop on my cheek. I quickly wiped it, hoping it wasn't Zinzan's drool. Then I felt another. And another. And another.
"What the-" I said, turning to see what it was.
It wasn't raining from what I could tell, and Zinzan looked alarmed too, mainly because he despised water. Then a large gurgling sound came from the distance. We turned, looking at the dead forest in front of us.
Silence followed.
The ground beneath us shook for a while in the small lapse between the silence and the crashing sound that came after.
Trees toppled in rows like dominoes, and great waves came roaring behind. I froze for some time, trying processing all of this. Then I ran, and so did Zinzan. Panic and fear forced me to run like I never had, but the heavy waves behind us were faster. It swooped me from bellow, throwing me high and low as it gained speed. I called out to Zinzan, but I couldn't find him in the blue. I tried to swim my way around but the current flowed in all directions, too strong for me to fight. I finally stopped resisting letting the waves carry me. I sank low and high, accidentally swallowing water every time. It was nauseating. Then the tree trunks started flowing by fast. I ducked my head as each lunged at me, grasping on to one to get a better view of things. I stood up, on the shaking wooden beam, calling out for Zinzan again. Then I remembered Cody- he was still out there. But we'd left him so far out, the waves must have swallowed him up long before it reached us. I still called out for both of them, though. Then another tree came bounding at me, but I wasn't as quick to dodge it. It struck me from behind and I plummeted into the depths of the murky waters.
