We all froze. The eyes blinked.
"What is that?" Cody asked through gritted teeth, trying not to move.
"I'd rather not know..." I whispered back, still fixed.
"Should we run?" Brianna asked through the corner of her mouth.
"Where?"
"Anywhere," She answered back.
We stayed still for a few more seconds, then ran. Okay, maybe that was stupid but I wasn't gonna stay like a statue in front of a giant creature hidden in the darkness. The creature growled, its echoes running through my ears. then it started to chase us. We didn't dare look back. We ran through the many twists and turns of the cave's tunnels, not thinking of anything but to run. I heard the creature's talons scrape against the walls as if it was almost too big for the tunnels. I waited for a dead-end to come, like in all those cliches, but knew that we wouldn't be miraculously saved right before death was served. And so it came- sort of. Brianna halted in front of me, and I slammed into her, followed by Cody.
"What is it?!" Cody yelled over the loud hum from the creature.
"It's a cliff, I think..." She trailed off. I moved aside from her, peering over the edge of the path. I dropped a rock, and it disappeared into its thick fog. I waited for the sound of the rock hitting the floor to come. It didn't. I turned back around, to see the creature gaining on us. Large spikes curling back, white scales gleaming, dead eyes staring at us as it pursued u with speed. It was some sort of dragon. I started to panic.
"It's either death by dragon or death by jumping off into...this," I said. We looked at each other.
"I'd rather not be torn limb from limb by that thing so..." Brianna said, hesitating.
"I mean, maybe it eats us up whole," Cody pointed out.
Brianna breathed in, then out. She looked at us, the jumped off, disappearing into the fog as her scream faded.
Cody and I exchanged looks. The dragon-thing was feet away. Then we jumped. I looked up to see the dragon scowl, turning back, and then we plummeted into thick fog.
