I suppose I can't explain the hysterical uproar that broke through the next day to its full extent. By the time the government announced the news of our 'extinction' we'd reached to where Zinzan wanted to go. It was supposedly the only safe area, and a sign nearby said the place was called 'Heaven'. It didn't look anything like stereotypical heaven, not that I'd ever seen heaven. Maybe I will see it, though, once it's all over. But the odds are against it. For now, this place which was once home will remain hell and those who have been lucky to not witness this dramatic change will be watching from the real heaven; a place where the innocent roam care-free as the rest of us mourn in hell, and you can decide yourself whichever hell I mean.
I wasn't there to see the whole reaction unfold, though I was glad for it. I could imagine the scene clearly: kids clinging to their parents, crying with them, people screaming out of fear-complete chaos.
Heaven was a deserted area, colder than it was empty. I shivered, wishing I had more than my henley shirt to keep me warm. Zinzan swiftly slipped from my bag, stretching what was left of his stick-like legs.
"When you said this would be 'the perfect place to hide out' I had a different setting in mind..."
I said, dropping my bag on the floor, searching for some sort of jacket.
"What do you mean?" Zinzan asked, doing some sort of yawning motion.
"Well, it's cold, empty, and..did I already say cold?"
"It's perfect. No one will bother to come here anyway."
"And by no one you mean...her?" I asked, shivering.
Zinzan nodded.
"I really hate it here." I groaned.
"Well, I'd rather die humbly like the rest than brutally get killed by her, and if you think any differently I'm sure you know the way back." He snapped rather fast.
I groaned. "This is stupid."
"Deal with it." He replied casually, then continued walking.
I followed after the cat, without another word. We continued walking through what seemed like an infinite arctic plain. Zinzan stopped abruptly, all four legs spread wide apart, back arched, ear twitching. I stopped.
"W-what is it?" I whispered to him.
He didn't answer.
"Zinzan?" I said a little louder.
"Hello..." A high, creepy girl's voice called from behind. the voice giggled. I turned around, mind racing. Then I froze- it was her.
