The next day, you feel a sense of De ja vu. Rushing into the elevator after passing by a office that contains lots of co workers, with little noise. Of course, the nerves are familiar as well, as it's only your second day.
As you get to the elevator, just in time yet again... You feel unsettled. Whilst itching the back of your head, you feel someone watching you."Hi." Kara says timidly with and awkward expression.
"Hey, you alright?" You ask in a slightly concerned tone with a small smile.Kara seems soo much more low energy, compared to yesterday morning. No smile. No life in her eyes. you feel bad for her, but you just don't know what to say. You don't even know if you should bring up last night, or just pretend it never happened. However, the need to confront got the best of you:
"Y/n" Kara says under her breath.
"Yes?"
"Is it okay if we talk later? There's something I have to tell you."
She asks anxiously, whilst you both gaze at the elevator door for a moment as it's rising.
"Is lunchtime okay?" You suggest whilst sounding slightly more attentive.
"That's fine." She replies.Four hours pass, and Kara walks over to you whilst rubbing her head in pain.
"We off then?"
She asks as she adjusts the thin shoulder strap on her handbag.
You look up at her from your desk, sympathetically.
"I have painkillers in my bag if you need them."
Kara insists that she's fine as you head over to the café.Kara slumps on the seat as soon as you both notice an empty table, conveniently with two pulled out seats.
"Y/n I promise you I wasn't ment to act the way I did last night. I can't even put into words how sorry I am."
She stresses.
You give her a look of disbelief, raising one eyebrow.
"People think a lot differently when they're drunk Kara."
You laugh as you continue.
"I completely understand. I'm not mad at you. Just don't worry about it."
You smile and explain ..Kara dramatically sighs in relief.
"I'm soo glad you're not mad at me, I've just had soo much going on and I didn't want to upset you at all."
Kara continues to sound nervous again.
"Honestly it's fine."
You roll your eyes as you let out a small giggle..."I can make it up to you."
Kara blurted out.
"Oh, you don't have t-"
"Y/n, I want to... As a proper apology."
She looks into your eyes deeply, giving you goosebumps.
"Sure. What were you thinking?"
You request.
"Tomorrow evening, me and my friend were going to go out for dinner. I was wondering if you wanted to join us. I can pay for you as an apology." Kara suggests.
"That sounds great."
You don't present the idea of paying for yourself, since you know how competitive and persistant Kara gets. Especially when it comes down to paying for others. That's one thing you noticed about Kara almost straight away. She comes across as soo selfless and generous. It's tomorrow evening, and you and Kara spent the lunchtime together. She explained to you (more perky than the day before) about her friend: James, and how talented he is as a journalist, as well as complimenting his photography skills. Kara goes on to explain that he used to be in charge of CatCo before Audrea "Turned it all into a advert for for technology and gossip." The more she explains about what CatCo is now, the more disgusted she sounds... It really makes you wonder what it was like beforehand.
You get to the restraunt with Kara as soon as work's finished. You open the double glass doors gently and are presented with dark orange lights filling up the room. The walls are a dark brown with orange candles resting on the side of the snowy white shelves. The smell of cinnamon leaks through the room as you and Kara sit down opposite each other in front of the glass table. Both of you discuss what you want to the waiter whilst patiently waiting for her friend.
A tall, serious looking man walks over to the table starring confidentiality whilst pulling out the third seat, that was previously tucked neatly under the table. As he sits up proudly, he pulls his hand out from his pockets."James." He introduces himself with a nod whilst giving you a strong handshake.
"Y/n." You respond, mirroring his posture to try and level with his confidence. He lets go of your hand loosely as the ground shakes violently. Everyone lose balance. Looking round as they fall harshly on their knees, everyone covering themselves under the table whilst looking fixedly on their surroundings in horror. Apart from Kara and James...
