Aella Theos helped Emily pull the trays of muffins out of the oven, setting them down on the counter to cool down.
Aella had become very close to the pack in the short time that she had known them. Emily and Sam were like another set of parents, Paul was like an annoying older brother. Embry and the newly shifted Jacob were like her younger brothers, two boys that she could bother.
She loved the pack and she loved being a part of their family. Seeing how Emily and Sam were fully convinced her that she and Jared were meant to be, although she hoped their love story would not involve a wolf attack at any time.
The human howl came from outside, Aella perking up at the sound. The boys were back, meaning that Jared was back. She shared a look with Emily as they heard Jared and Embry's voices alone. Something had happened at Jacob's.
Jared walked in first, laughing as Aella rushed towards him. He picked her up, the two kissing as Embry said something outside.
"Missed me?" Jared asked, setting Aella down.
"Lots."
Embry walked in, joining Jared at the table, where Emily grabbed the tray of muffins. Jared pulled Aella onto his lap as Emily turned.
"You guys hungry? Like I have to ask." She laughed, Aella looking at the plain girl in the doorway.
"Who's this?" Aella asked Jared as Emily noticed the girl as well.
"Bella Swan, who else?" Jared told his girlfriend.
"Hm, so, you're the vampire girl?" Emily smiled.
"So, you're the wolf girls?" Bella countered. Emily shrugged.
"Guess so. Well, I'm engaged to one and she is dating one."
Bella watched as Emily set the plate of muffins on the middle of the table, both boys reaching for one. Emily smacked their hands away.
"Save some for your brothers. And ladies first!"
Bella looked over at Aella, Aella laughing as she stuck her tongue out at Jared, grabbing a muffin. She offered it to Bella.
"Muffin?"
"Sure, thanks." Bella nodded, awkwardly taking it from Aella.
"I'm Aella, by the way. Jared's girlfriend." she grabbed another muffin, letting Jared have the first bite before stealing it back from him knowing that he would eat the whole thing without hesitation. He tickled her sides, Aella yelling with laughter as he tried to take the muffin from her.
He gave up and grabbed his own muffin as Embry rolled his eyes at the couple, pretending to vomit. "You two are disgusting."
Aella threw a fork at Embry, him ducking out the way just before it could hit him.
Bella watched the exchange, remembering how she and Edward had once been. At first glance, she noticed how pretty Aella was but Jared's stare made Aella seem more goddess like.
Jared looked at Aella like she was his sun, like she was the water in a desert. His stare made Bella notice the small things about Aella, like how she had a dimple on her left cheek or how her eyes were a light hazel color mixed with green.
"Leave it to Jacob to find a way around Sam's gag order." Aella said, snapping Bella out of her trance, while Emily nodded in agreement.
"Um, he didn't say anything to me."
"That's a wolf thing. Alpha's orders get obeyed whether we want them to or not. Oh, and check this out, we can hear each other's thoughts." Embry explained excitedly.
Jared slammed his muffin onto the table, glaring at Embry. "Would you shut up? These are trade secrets." Embry ignored Jared, instead focusing on his muffin. Jared huffed, pointing to Bella.
"Damn it! This chick runs with vampires." Aella rubbed Jared's arm, him relaxing under her touch. Bella looked away from the exchange, trying to ignore the way Aella's touch seemed to calm Jared and how he held onto her, as if searching for stability. When she touched Edward, he used to tense even more.
"You can't really run with vampires." The girls laughed at Bella's words. "Cause they're fast."
Jared was not deterred. "Yeah? Well we're faster. Freaked out yet?"
"You're not the first monsters I've met."
"Jake's right. You're good with weird." Sam walked in, heading straight for Emily and kissing her, peppering kisses all over her face as she giggled.
"Damn, Jar, you just got owned by a human. How do you feel?" Jared rolled his eyes at his girlfriend's teasing, pressing a kiss to her shoulder.
Paul and Jacob came inside, laughing and pushing each other as they went. Jared shook his head, pulling a ten dollar bill out of his pocket and handing it to Embry, who smirked victoriously. Aella laughed, leaning back into her irritated boyfriend's chest.
"You good, Pauly boy?"
Paul rolled his eyes at the ridiculous nickname Aella had given him. "I'm great, El. Not like I got smacked or anything."
"You probably deserved it." Sam cleared his throat, staring expectantly at Paul. Paul sighed but turned to Bella.
"Sorry."
Bella looked to Jacob and the two left, Aella whistling.
"What does he see in her?"
"Right?" Paul agreed with her, the two fist bumping.
"Also, Embry, pay up." Aella held her hand out, Embry raising an eyebrow.
"For?"
"I bet that she would know the truth by the end of the month, remember? You said Jacob was strong enough to keep her away. You owe me ten."
Embry groaned and reluctantly handed over the ten dollar bill he had just won from Jared.
"Jared, your girlfriend is mean."
"Don't make bets you can't afford." Aella retorted, holding the bill up to the light.
Jared and Paul laughed as Aella checked the bill, pocketing it. "Thank you, Emmy."
"You all have a betting problem." Emily pointed out, grabbing the now empty plate once more.
"No, no. Jared and Embry have betting problems. Paul and I just bet occasionally."
"Yeah, we don't bet on every little thing like other people." Paul added.
"Ah yes, good to know my girlfriend is always on my side." The sarcasm in Jared's voice made Aella laugh, capturing his lips in a kiss.
"You know I love you."
"Yeah, yeah."
