Aella Theos tried to ignore everything going on around her. She sat on the Cullen's patio, as Lyra had assigned them as her new protectors.

Lyra, as amazing as she was, had decided to temporarily leave her post as Aella's protector to travel and just, do her own thing for the time being. Aella supported Lyra through it all as Lyra stood by her side her whole life. Lyra promised she would return but Aella told her to take her time. After all, Aella was in control and had Jared to keep track of her.

Aella flinched, squeezing her eyes shut as the sound. "Alice, I don't think she's gonna learn."

Alice smiled at Bella who stared at her, feeling dejected. "She just has to break them in."

"She has been breaking them in-"

"-for three days." Bella finished for Aella. "Can't I just go barefoot?"

"Of course not!"

"Hey boss, where do you want them?" Emmett paused before the patio, holding a giant tree trunk in his arms.

"On either side of the aisle."

Rosalie followed after Emmett, also holding a trunk. "What aisle?"

Alice rolled her eyes. "Honestly, does no one have vision?" She marched off, shouting orders as she went.

Bella sighed, kicking off her shoes and picking them up. Aella looked up, smirking when she saw Edward standing on his balcony.

She whistled, Bella turning to her in confusion. Aella pointed upwards, Bella's eyes widening as she noticed her fiancé. She handed Aella the shoes, walking closer to the edge of the patio to get a better look.

Alice appeared before Bella, disregarding Edward completely. "You. You get lots of beauty rest tonight. I'll see you tomorrow."

Alice then turned to Aella, Bella waving goodbye as she left the Cullen home. Aella sighed, standing up. "What do you need me to do, Al?"

"Go home. You've done enough."

Aella looked away, leaning on the rail of the patio. With Jacob leaving, Sam had been sending wolves to check on him in Canada. Embry and Quil were the most active candidates, leaving for weeks at a time. The latest victims, though, were Embry and Jared, as Claire, Quil's imprint, was back in town.

With Lyra's departure, Jared and Aella had moved in together in his family home. His father had permanently moved away, with his mistress. Jared's mother had been so devastated that she moved as well, leaving the home to Jared and rented a place in Seattle.

Aella had gotten so used to sleeping next to Jared and in his arms that the week he had been away seemed like a year. She wasn't sleeping well and Alice noticed it. So she kept Aella busy, giving her random tasks to help prepare for the wedding. Aella obliged, happy to keep away from the reservation and away from the thoughts of Jared's absence.

"Alice, you know why I can't."

"Alice, do you mind if I talk to Aella alone?" Edward's voice cut in, striding towards Aella. Alice nodded slowly, leaving the patio and closing the door behind her.

"You should go back, El. Trust me on this."

"Edward, you know the pain of missing the one you love. Just leave it." Aella spoke, not even turning to him.

Edward chuckled, shaking his head. "Jacob is back. He agreed to show up at the wedding."

Aella quickly turned. "If Jacob is back, that means....."

"That you're gonna have a good night's rest."

Aella pulled Edward into a hug, laughing in disbelief. Sam said Jared could be gone for a while, two weeks minimum, a month max.

"Thank you, Edward. Truly."

"The one you should really be thanking is Jacob."

"I'll see you tomorrow. Have a nice bachelor party. And remember, no strippers!" Aella called over her shoulder, running out of the house. She got in her car, driving quickly to the rez.

She all but ran to the house, unlocking the door quickly. "Jared!" She shouted, searching the whole house.

Her smile fell when the house turned up empty. She walked into the bedroom, heading straight for the bathroom.

Either Edward had lied to her, they weren't back yet, or they were at Emily's. She hoped it was the latter.

Aella changed, brushing her teeth and getting into the bed. She turned to the clock, realizing that Alice would kill her if she had bags under her eyes tomorrow morning. She tried to sleep, groaning when she got no results.

"Screw this."

She sat up, rubbing her eyes and running a hand through her hair. Edward's news had only made her worse, more anxious to see Jared.

"You know babe, I was expecting you to be happier to see me." Aella jumped up, looking to the window where Jared sat, smirking.

"You dick!" She exclaimed, throwing a pillow at him as he laughed.

"Hello to you too."

"Can't you come in through the door like normal people?"

"You of all people should not be telling me to act normal." Jared walked closer to Aella, stopping only when his hands were around her waist. She let him pull her into his chest, breathing in his scent.

"Did you miss me?"

Aella glanced up, pulling Jared's face down by grabbing his chin. "Loads."

He smashed their lips together, her hand going to his hair while his went to her thighs.

"I'm supposed to be up early tomorrow." Aella muttered against Jared's lips as he picked her up, carrying her to the bed.

"You can be a little late." He mumbled in reply, laying her down and hovering over her.

"Alice can wait." She agreed, pulling him into another kiss.
