Hiccup was wondering through the bush of Berk, sighing to himself as he thought of Astrid.
The poor girl, he thought, Everything's been taken from her.

He took a shaky breath, trying not to cry for his best human friend. He knew what it felt like to lose a parent. But gods, he was thankful he was young when Valka passed. That way, he doesn't have any major and defining memories of her, making it somewhat easier to move on, despite everyday reminders.

He was also thankful for his Dad, even though he treated him like scum throughout his adolescence. At least he had someone.

He found it incredibly heartbreaking that he couldn't say the same for Astrid.

Hiccup continued walking through the forests of Berk until he found the cove, as he knew that would most likely be where she is. Other than that, she would be chopping trees with that awesome battle axe of hers.

He squeezed himself between the two rocks and under the rotten shield at the cove. Man, that had been a lot easier when he was young. He looked ahead, and saw her sitting by the lake and on a rock, bent over and sobbing into her arms, which were hugging herself.

The sorrow filled Hiccup's chest like an arrow to the heart.
"Astrid?"

She looked over, her eyes bloodshot and her face puffy from all the crying.
"Hiccup?" Her voice was raspy, "What are you doing here?" she sniffled.

"I came to look for you," He explained, finally getting past the small space he got stuck in. He grunted as he got up, stumbling and brushing off himself, making the blonde viking laugh. Well, smile at least.

"I just... wanted to be alone,"

"Would you like me to leave?" Hiccup asked, to which there was a pause.

"No," She eventually replied, turning her attention back to the water. Again, there was silence. Then she let out a small breath of laughter. "Infact, you somehow seem to make things better."

"Glad I could help," Hiccup said, walking over to sit by Astrid. He leant forward, resting his elbows on his knees and stared at the water. "Is there anything else I can do?"

Astrid shook her head, leaning her head onto his shoulder. Eventually she managed to choke out a small 'No,' as Hiccup laid his arm around her shoulders.

"Are you... What are you thinking Astrid? How are you handling this? I just wanna make sure your okay... And I don't want to see you suddenly... gone, somewhere, you know?" He muttered, his tone soft and caring, and Astrid did her best not to break down into tears, though his warm and comforting embrace made that incredibly hard.

"I think that I'm okay, Hiccup." She whispered, "Thank you for being such a good friend,"

Hiccup felt a small ping of something in his chest, and he couldn't quite in it... Disappointment? He just got friend-zoned, for Thor's sake. Yet he scolded himself for being so selfish in a time where Astrid needed not another problem like a relationship.

"It's what any friend would do, Astrid. I just want to make things easier, since clearly... Times are going to be harder now. For all of us."

Astrid nodded in agreement, picking up Hiccup's free hand and playing with his fingers. Hiccup felt all the blood rush to his head, but he did his best to calm himself. If Astrid was comfortable with him like this, it was a positive. He rested his head on top of hers, sighing.

They sat there in silence, wrapped inside each other's arms and enjoying the company. It was like this for a while, before Astrid spoke up.

"Where's Toothless?" she asked.

"Sleeping, like usual," He breathed, "Speaking of sleep, have you been getting any?"

"Erm... No?"

"Then... try, milady. Do your best, for me, for Stormfly, for the people who care about you. You need sleep if your going to get through this," He explained to her, and she nodded, the old nickname sending butterflies to her stomach. On that thought she drifted to sleep inside her crushes arms- finding love not where she wished or where she hoped, but atleast he somewhat healed her heart.
