I returned to school with Steph on Monday and we spoke in whispers through Homeroom, irritating our teacher, Mrs Jerrold becauseeEverytime she turned around to see who was talking, Steph and I pulled apart, looking innocently at her.
When it was time to part ways for our next subject, I was surprised to see Dean by the door, waiting for me to leave. Tommy wasn't with him, hence my surprise as Steph waved bye, heading into a different direction.
"Hey." Was his low welcome and I returned it. "Are you okay?"
I frowned, confused by his words. "Yeah, why wouldn't I be?"
"After Friday, in the car park? You looked pissed."
I blinked several times, looking at the floor before me. "Yeah. I'm fine. All sorted now though." I assured him.
"Steph messaged me and Tommy, asking if we had seen you on Friday night." I could hear the undertone in his voice. Dean was worried.
"Yeah, I uh, stayed at my aunt's for the weekend. Had a breather." I said softly as we walked to Maths. "You didn't have to come find me though, I would have seen you soon enough in class."
Dean didn't say anything but kept walking next to me.
"But I don't mind the company." I added and smiled, not at Dean directly, more at the ground.
"Yeah, sure." He laughed. We got to the classroom and Dean let me in first. That's when my heart started bearing erratically. My hearing disappeared and I saw only one thing. A person. Lisa. I lost all focus and was holding my breathe until I felt a hand on my shoulder, slightly shaking me, pushing me forward.
Snapping back to the now, I made my way to my desk and sat, silent, thoughts running through my head. Why must I be plagued by her?
Usually nothing happens in Maths but there was no teacher right now.
"Are you okay?" Dean asked me, snapping his fingers before my face.
Blinking, I slowly looked at Dean. He was staring at me, concerned, his eyes large, waiting for my reply.
"Oh! Look, Darla." Lisa said in a high pitched voice that sounded like nails on a blackboard. "Elizabeth here is still playing dress ups. The whole wanna be hairstyle, punk look, the fake piercings and of course she is in a skirt again. Easy access for the boys, right?" She looked at me, proud of her insult.
"Shut the fuck up, Lisa." Dean growled before turning his back to her. "Don't listen to them, Beth."
"Dont worry about them. Ignore them." I whispered to Dean, not looking at him. "Don't bother defending me."
"Yeah, Dean. Don't defend her." Matthew joined in as I heard Lisa and Darla snicker.
"What's the point?" Lisa continued. "She ain't denying it."
"Denying what, exactly?" Dean growled at them, turning sharply and facing the trio.
"That she is a slut." Matthew grinned.
Then Dean was out of his chair, punching Matthew, his actions were so quick that by the time everyone had registered what had happened, Dean had already busted Matthews face.
I jumped up, trying to stop Dean from assualting Matthew even more, and in that precise moment, Mr Clarke, our teacher for this subject walked in. Stepping to the two boys, one hand on each collar, he pulled Dean and Matthew apart.
I took that opportunity to go in front of Dean, pushing him away from Matthew. In all the chaos, students yelling and wooting, the teacher bellowed for them to go to the office and told the class to settle down.
