ANNA SAT BEHIND Barry on the medical bed in the side room of the Cortex, her cheek pressed softly against his back as Caitlin checked his vision just after checking hers and confirming what Anna already knew—that her eyes were fine.

The brunette ran her hand up and down Barry's back slowly, careful not to drag her fingernails over his back to avoid tickling him. She looked down at the white and blue bracelet on her wrist, following it with her eyes as her hand moved. Her chest tightened at the idea of her mother, or rather, someone who looked like her mother, being alive. Someone who she never thought she'd see again was walking the Earth—a completely different Earth—for her whole life and she was completely oblivious to the idea. And now, knowing her mother and her uncle have doppelgängers that are now on her Earth, she wished she could be oblivious to the idea again.

"I still can't see," Barry spoke up suddenly, pulling Anna out of her thoughts. He inhaled deeply, causing the brunette's head to lift with his body. Once he exhaled, her head returned back to the same position it had been in before, allowing her neck and shoulders to relax. "How long is this gonna last?"

"You're suffering from solar retinopathy. Your retinas are severely damaged. You're lucky you're not permanently blind," Caitlin replied, causing Anna to lift her head to look at her with furrowed brows.

"But with your rapid regeneration abilities, your sight should return soon," Jay added, causing Anna to look toward him instead of the brown-haired scientist. "Don't worry, Anna. He'll be okay."

"6.25 hours, by my estimation," Harry piped up, causing Jay to roll his eyes and shake his head. "All this could have been avoided if they had just stopped Light instead of chit-chatting with her."

"She caught them both off guard," Jay defended and furrowed his brows at the dark-haired man. He looked down at the man suffering from the temporary blindness and frowned.

"Always an excuse with you, right?" Harry asked and folded his arms over his chest. "They're the fastest people alive. How could she possibly catch them off guard?"

"Because Light looks exactly like one of my best friends," Anna replied and turned her head toward Harry, her eyes narrowing on him. "Emily Patel."

"Ah. You two were friends on my Earth when the two of you were in primary school. Then she fell in with the wrong crowd, tried to take you with her but you refused. She turned into a real brat," Harry said and clicked his tongue, nodding slowly. "That's why Zoom sent her. Because he knew you'd hesitate. And from seeing your hesitation, Barry would also hold back."
