gorilla warfare
part one

HER WHOLE BODY burned like a raging wildfire. She opened her mouth, forcing apart her dry, cracked lips and swallowed the lump in her throat. Her fingers began to tingle, and so did her toes, the life and energy slowly returning to her body.

"She's waking up," a man spoke up from beside her, his voice oddly familiar. A warm hand touched the side of her face, and a much smaller, cooler hand wrapped around her palm.

Anna took in a small breath and then exhaled slowly, trying to open her eyes but couldn't fight the drowsiness that had taken over her body. She squeezed her eyes even tighter together and pressed her lips in a straight line, leaning her cheek against the warm palm touching her face.

"Come on, Anna," a woman whispered, her voice causing Anna's heart to race—it was Elizabeth, her mother. "Come back to us, Anna."

Anna squeezed the hand that held hers and forced open her eyes, blinking slowly to clear away the blurriness that blocked her vision. She looked at the faces around her, meeting each team member's eyes, along with her father's, Elena's, Harry's and Elizabeth's and Cody's.

Her father stroked his thumb over her cheek lightly, smiling softly as he looked into his daughter's eyes. "How are you feeling?" He questioned and searched her face with his eyes.

Anna ran her tongue over her lips, moistening them. Zoom's face blinked behind her eyes and she jumped, feeling each hard punch that he delivered all over again. Her heart began to race and she looked around the room, praying that she wouldn't see the man himself. "Where is he? Where's Zoom?" She asked between quick breaths, her chest tightening and her stomach twisting.

"He's not here, sweetheart. You're safe," Elizabeth said soothingly and joined her bedside on the opposite side of Nathan. She rested her hand on top of the speedster's head, stroking her hand slowly as she smiled. "Take some deep breaths for me, okay? Try to stay calm. Zoom isn't here to hurt you anymore."

Anna looked around the room once again, her heart sinking when she didn't spot Barry. Her heartbeat spiked and she quickly sat up, tears swelling in her eyes. "Barry. Where's Barry?" She asked and stared into Shannon's eyes, her vision blurring with tears. "Where's Barry?" She repeated and moved on to look at Caitlin.

"Barry's alright, Anna. He's hurt pretty badly, but he's okay," Caitlin replied and frowned slightly, her eyes moving down to the floor. She took a deep breath and then lifted her head, meeting Anna's eyes once again. "When he woke up, he couldn't feel his legs. Barry can't barely walk."
