LIES WERE A tricky thing, a dangerous thing. Telling a lie was like playing with fire; feed it too much, and something bad will happen. The bigger a lie got, the longer you kept it going, the harder it was to control. Lies and secrets, sparks and flames, it was all the same. People were going to get hurt around it all, but what was worse? A burnt hand, or a broken heart?
It was obvious that Harry and Elizabeth were hiding something. Both of them were different around Anna and Barry—on edge, if you will. Neither of them looked the young speedsters in the eyes for too long and they barely looked at each other anymore.
"If our calculations are correct—" Harry began, but Barry quickly cut in, "And they are," the young speedster said.
"And they are," Harry repeated and picked up the device, turning around to reveal his funny goggles to Anna. "When this device detonates, it'll collapse the event horizon on this side of the breach, thereby shutting off any connection to Earth-2 permanently."
Barry squeezed his eyes shut for a moment and then opened them, letting out a yawn that clearly shocked the older Wells siblings, and Anna.
"You okay?" Anna asked, resting a hand on Barry's arm lightly, furrowing her brows. The speed depletion was taking a toll on Barry now, and soon it would start taking even more energy out of Anna.
"Yeah, I'm just a little tired. I don't feel like myself. I'm good, though," Barry replied and nodded at Anna, placing a kiss to the side of her head. "I promise."
"Yeah," Harry muttered and cleared his throat.
"It's going to work, uncle H," Anna stated reassuringly and nodded at the man with the funny goggles, smiling slightly even though her stomach was in knots.
"Yeah. Yeah. Okay, everyone ready?" Harry asked and turned toward the two speedsters, holding out the device.
"Yeah, give it to me," Barry said and took the reactor in his hands. He took a few steps forward and threw the device as hard as he could, lightning crackling for a moment and lighting up the faces of the three people watching.
The device crashed into the breach, causing it to glow blue and white and twist and turn. The breach turned into dark clouds and began jittering, sending out a noise that sounded like static before exploding into thin air.
"Yes!" Anna exclaimed and threw her hands up into the air for a moment before wrapping her arms around Barry's shoulders. She then turned to her mother and smiled even brighter. "Good job, Mom," she said, somewhat taken aback by the simple word that left her mouth.
