Treehouse

Today wasn't really your day. You asked your crush to go to the dance with you and instead of giving you an answer, he only laughed in your face. You couldn't show your face around school for a few days. You refused to because when you asked, his friends were near and heard everything and they laughed with him. You hated yourself for asking with his friends around.

You sighed as you sat in the treehouse your dad built for you when you were younger. It was still sturdy after all these years and you mentally thank him every time you climb in there.

As you were sitting in the corner of the treehouse, crying your eyes out you heard someone ask for you, "If you can't find her I'm sure she's in the treehouse up there. But I'd be careful if I were you." You heard your dad say to the person, "She only goes up there when she's really upset. If you don't want to get hit in the head with anything, enter with caution." You smiled at your dad's warning, he was always able to cheer you up with his silly personality.

"(Y/n)?" You heard the person open the door to the treehouse slowly. You hid your face behind your knees, knowing who it was and didn't want him to see you in this state. "Oh you are in here. Are you okay? I heard what happened at school today."

"Leave me alone. I don't want to be bothered right now." You told your best friend.

"Well I'm just gonna bother you more now because I know that's what you want." He said and you picked up the nearest item and threw it at him.

"Go away." You said, your voice muffled by your knees.

"In your words you mean come closer, right?" He asked and you heard the door close behind him.

You let out a aggravated sigh when you heard his footsteps get closer, "What do you want, Sabo?" You asked him, not looking up from your knees.

"I wanted to see if you were okay, but it's pretty clear that you aren't." He said as he sat down next to you.

There was silence for a bit until you finally spoke up, "They laughed at me."

"Hm? Who laughed?" Sabo asked in confusion.

"Him and he buddies. He didn't even bother to answer me. He just laughed and his friends followed afterwards." You said, starting to cry again.

"Forget those assholes. I'm sure you dodged a bullet anyway, seeing that he laughed." Sabo tried to comfort you.

"I can't show my face in front of them or the whole school. Everyone'll just laugh, that was so embarrassing. Why'd I have to ask him in front of his friends? Why am I so stupid?" You asked no one in particular.

"Hey, you aren't stupid. Yeah, you made a mistake, but what person hasn't? Everything will turn out fine, I'm sure of it." The blond wrapped his arm around your shoulder pulling you into him and you just sobbed, "Plus, it's just a stupid dance. There'll be more in the future and you can ask someone better than that jerk."

"L-like who? I doubt anyone will go with me." You sniffled.

"I would go with you." He said and you chuckled.

"You're only saying that because you're my best friend. I'm sure when you get a girlfriend you're gonna abandon me for her." You told him.

"Not if my girlfriend is you." You heard him say and you looked at him for the first time since he entered the treehouse.

"Now isn't the time for jokes." You told him sternly, "Especially for a joke like that."

"I'm not joking, I'm dead serious." He looked at you.

You wiped you away your tears and pulled back from him, "What are you trying to say? That you like me or something?" You asked him.

"What do you think I'm trying to say?"

"Don't answer my question with a question, just tell me before I kick you out of my treehouse. You aren't even supposed to be in here, this is my space for me." You demanded.

Sabo chuckled, "You're coming back to your old self, I'm glad." He said with a smile.

"Answer my question." You pulled on his cheeks and he winced.

"Okay, okay. Leggo uh mah cheeks scho I can tell you." Sabo managed to say and I let them go. He rubbed his cheeks while slightly glaring at you, "Yes, I do like you...and I have for a while." He finally answered.

"Why are you just now telling me?" You asked him.

"Because you were so wrapped up in that asshole and I didn't want things to be more complicated than it should." He admitted.

"So what would've happened if he said yes instead of laughing in my face?"

"You and all these questions..." He mumbled, "I would've just accepted my loss."

You stared at him in disbelief, "So you wouldn't fight for me?"

"Why would I when you already told me that you liked him?" He told you and raised a brow, "Why are you asking me all these questions?"

You turned to face him, "I'm trying to sort through my feelings right now. I really hope you're not telling me this to cheer me up because that's just-" Sabo cut you off by crashing his lips onto yours. You immediately fell into the kiss and closed your eyes.

After a few seconds he pulled away, "I hope that was enough to convince you...and stop you from asking all these damn questions." He said with a laugh and you slapped his arm.

"Are you the asshole or him?"

"Still asking questions..." You kisses his cheek in response to his last comment.

"I guess I like you too." You said with a giggle.

"You guess?" Sabo raised a brow.

"Yeah." You tapped your chin in thought, "I may need another kiss to be confident in my answer." You said with a grin.

The blond shrugged his shoulders, "If you say so." He leaned in, giving you another kiss more passionate than the last.

The treehouse door opened again and you both looked at the door, seeing your dad standing there with some grilled burgers, "I came to tell you both that the burgers were ready, but I'll leave you both be." He said and turned around, "Break her heart and I break your legs." Your dad added while the door closed behind and the both of you laughed.
