Chapter 23

By the time I had finished I was more or less running late, Aiden had promised to pick me up so he was running late too.

"Callie, your gonna be late, hurry up." My mum called.

"Aidens not here though," I replied putting a hair grip into some falling pieces of my hair.

"he's been waiting down here for 20 minutes," she informed me from the stairs.

He had?

"coming," I called in an aggravated tone. They could've said. Taking one more look in the mirror, I bit my lip. My hair was pulled back into a loose bun with millions of clips holding it up, my make up was a bit more pronounced than usual, taking a bolder look I had put some eyeliner along the water lines of my eyes, put a couple more coats of mascara on, not to make it look like fake lashes but to give it a 'wow' factor. My lips had a light coating of clear lip gloss, I had never been a fan of it and my cheeks were lighlty powdered. It wasn't that it looked bad, it was just that it was very different to my usual...makeup.

My clothes consisted of a baggy shirt tucked into some small shorts me that Aiden had found at the shopping Centre, for a little piece of fabric, they cost a lot. I had see-through tights on with my traditional converse hi-tops. They were a must. I loved them. Overall, my outfit wasn't too bad.

"Callie!" My mum yelled.

"Sorry, sorry," I repeated grabbing my bag and running down the stairs.

Aiden came out and blinked. "wow, how old are you again?"

"jeez, you sound like my dad, its just a little bit of make up," I replied.

"im serious Callie, you actually look bad ass," he said as I slipped into my quilted leather jacket.

I grinned at him. I liked that word. "you think I should act badass?"

"certainly not," my mums voice interrupted. "now go!" she practically pushed us out the door as we ran to the car. It was lightly raining but I didn't want my hair to fall out.

"have you got a umbrella?" I asked after Aiden started the car.

"Please, don't have so much doubt in me, of course I have an umbrella!"

I rolled my eyes and glanced out the car window, the rain was becoming heavier. "I think we're gonna need it, I don't want my hair getting ruined."

It was Aidens turn to roll his eyes, "when have I ever heard you say that?"

I ignored him and prayed today would go well.

"So, have you seen the new girl?" I overheard yet another group of boys grunt.

"no, but apparently shes hot."

Of yippee. No one recognises me.

"oh man-"

"excuse me," I pushed my way through their huddle which was blocking my path to my seat.

"going somewhere? Want to join us?" One of them smiled unfriendly at me stopping me from getting through.

I shook my head disgustingly. "why would I want to do that? Can you get out of my way?" I pushed more forceably and they laughed.

"don't worry princess, we werent going to try anything...right boys?" the leader I was guessing was smirking at me. It made him look hot but I wasn't going to fall for his trick.

"just get out of my way alright? I just want to get to my seat." I said more loudly.

They laughed but held up their hands backing away. "you said it princess, but don't forget us." I ignored them and pushed my way through slamming my bag down on my table.

"they giving you trouble?" a boy with bright blue eyes and blonde hair sat next to me.

"just being pricks," I replied tersely looking around for them, finding nothing I went back to unpacking my bag.

"Im Tate." He introduced, "I'm new here."

"Callie," I replied smiling warmly but focusing back to the front of the class, the teacher hadn't started the lesson and Tate was distracting me. He was a charmer, I could tell, if I hadn't been through all this with Sage, I may have fallen for him but I knew his game so I kept distant.

"so, Callie, what's this deal about you being new here too?" he asked leaning casually on his arms and leaning his body towards mine. An invitation.

Subtly, I turned away but answered him. "I'm not, I've had a makeover, had some grief before so I'm starting fresh."

He cocked his head to the side, "grief?"

"Don't worry about it," I muttered as the teacher finally called the class to attention.

By the end, I was planning of running out before he would catch me but he seems to know my actions as I stood up quickly, he did too blocking my path.

"so could you show me to the cafeteria?" he asked looking intently into my face. It was uncomfortable so I looked away and swallowed forcing a smile to my face.

"sure," I edged around him and walked off quickly but he had no problem keeping up with me. In fact, because we were so quick we were one of the first people there so I got my food quickly hoping to lose him.

I thought I had until a hand slipped under my elbow stopping me from walking out the cafeteria. "not going to wait for me?" he asked as I turned my head to face him.

"I'm sure you'll find your way around here soon enough, I've gotta go, it was nice meeting you," I slipped out from his arm and almost skipped away from him reaching the outside table aiden had told me he would meet me at.

"you look freaked out." Aidens voice met my vision as I blinked. I had blanked again.

"sorry, there was this guy whose been following me. Hes new here apparently." I muttered unwrapping my sandwich. Aiden sat down oppsite me.

"oh, you mean Tate? Hes hot isnt he?"

"Aiden!" I thumped his head across the table but he ducked. "careful, I hear a hot new girl has started too,"

I roll my eyes, "don't, some boys have already started on me." I replied darkly.

Aiden gave me a sympathetic look before changing the subject, "have you seen Sage about at all?" he asked quietly.

"no," I mumbled looking down at my sandwich while a warm glow spread onto my face.

He chuckled. "Callie, look up, I know you won't want to hear this but its better that you did."

I looked up slowely sighing. "what?"

"he was...kissing another girl earlier in class, and im not talking about a little peck, it was outside the class I was in, out in the halls, he had her against the wall not hiding at all. Im sorry,"

I stared blankly at him. Sage had done that on purpose, he knew Aiden was hanging out with me and he knew he would tell me. I felt my eyes pricking with tears but I wiped them away. Aiden reached across the table to take my other hand.

"Im sorry Callie, but you had to know he was going to do this! He wants you to know how he's feeling, he's taking out all his emotion on girls," Aiden spoke my thoughts.

I shook my head. "this is horrible."

Suddenly out of no where, Tate appeared beside me looking excited like a little boy on christmas.

"why didn't you tell me you befriended one of the greatest players in your school, made him fall in love with you and cheated on him?! You're a freaking genius!"

I just stared at him while Aiden sighed hanging his head into his arms.

This was going to be a long day.
