The next couple of weeks go by so fast. Harper and Jordan spend all their free time together. Jordan is working with his friend Donnie and his brothers at their construction company, Wahlberg Construction. The work has picked up quite a bit since its gotten warmer outside. Their time together is usually only at night or on the weekends. Jordan comes over to Harper's every night after he gets off work. Most nights Harper cooks dinner for him, but Jordan will pick up take out for them some nights too. He doesn't want her to ever think that she has to cook for him. He returns the favor on the weekends though. She says he makes the best bacon and eggs she has ever tasted.
Jordan takes Harper home to meet his mom and his family on his birthday. She really likes his mom and his sisters. Her favorite person she meets is his brother Jonathan. He's such a kind soul. They hit it off immediately. He confides in Harper that she's made a huge change in Jordan's life. He tells her he can see how happy his brother is now. He says this is the happiest he's seen him since before he moved away. "Harper, my brother was so lost when he got back home. I immediately saw a difference after he met you. I'm not kidding, you've made him so happy."
The time they've spent together has meant so much to Harper. She never would have expected to meet someone so quickly when she moved to Boston. She'd left her home and her long time boyfriend/fiance to figure out who she was, on her own.
Harper's parents had the type of relationship she'd always dreamed of having. Their love story had always inspired her. They'd met in high school and had fallen in love when they were very young teenagers. They had gotten married right after they graduated from high school. They had started their family as soon as they got married. Harper's brother was born just a month shy of their one year anniversary. After her brother, her parents lost two babies, then Harper came along and they chose to stop after having her.
She grew up in such a loving home. Her parents were amazing parents. They spoiled Harper and her older brother, Hudson. Not with things, but with love. They showered their children with so much love. Hudson and Harper grew up happy and well adjusted, all because of how wonderful their parents were. When Harper began dating Michael, her mom told her how much they reminded her of her and her dad at their age. That made Harper so happy. That's all she'd ever wanted, to be just like her parents. Harper always looked at her mom and dad like they had the perfect marriage.
That all changed when her dad died suddenly in a car accident. He was there, laughing and joking with Harper about her upcoming wedding, that morning when she stopped by her parents house for breakfast. It was the last time he'd ever be in that house again. Their family was whole, then ten hours later he was gone forever. Losing her father was horrible for Harper, she'd always been a Daddy's girl. They had always been incredibly close. Harper and Hudson had to plan everything for their mother. She could barely get out of bed for days after her husband died. She pulled herself together long enough to say goodbye and bury him. But Harper saw how lost she was afterwards. She didn't know how to live her life without him. And for the first time in her life Harper didn't want what her parents had. She didn't want to end up like her mother, who was now just a shell of who she had once been. Harper loved her mom, but the thing that finally made up her mind about not marrying Michael was her mother not even showing up for her wedding. Her excuse was, she just couldn't handle it without her father. That's when Harper knew that wasn't the life she wanted for herself.
Now she was dating a man who was nothing like her father, or like Michael. And that wasn't a bad thing. He was still a good man. But he didn't try to control Harper, he didn't smother her or try to change her. He liked her just like she was. He encouraged her independence. They enjoyed their time together, but they also had their own lives. And although they did spend a lot of nights together, having sex most of those nights, Jordan didn't give up his own life or ask her to give up hers. She appreciates this about him the most. Well maybe second most.
Harper is beginning to have feelings for Jordan. And Jordan is beginning to have feelings for Harper.
It doesn't scare either of them, these feelings feel natural to them both. They just feel right. Harper doesn't want to think about it too much. Neither she or Jordan have mentioned having feelings for the other yet. They both want to make sure what they feel is real before admitting it to each other. They both know there's a lot they still need to learn about one another. But they aren't in any hurry. They're just enjoying each other when they're together. Learning little things about one another as they do has been nice. There's no rush. They have the luxury of taking their time.
Jordan knows that sooner than later, if they decide they want this relationship to move forward and become more serious, they'll have to discuss the unpleasant things about themselves. And eventhough he's not looking forward to it, he's glad she'll already know him before that day comes.
