Harper convinces Jordan into staying. She says they can just talk if that would make him feel better. "I'd really like to be friends if that's okay. I'm sorry if I made you feel uncomfortable."
He feels terrible for making her think she made him feel anything other than good. He wishes he could tell her that kissing her was amazing. That it made him feel more alive than he's felt in years. "Harper, you didn't make me feel uncomfortable. I didn't mean to make you feel like that. I just think we should get to know each other better. You're all I've been able to think about since the night we met. You're nothing like any other girl I've ever met. But I'm not a good guy. You're too good for me."
"Jordan stop saying that. You are good enough for me. I'm no angel, I've got my faults. And I haven't been able to stop thinking about you either. I've been walking past that bar every day hoping to run into you. Today I'd given up and bought groceries because I figured it would be a quick trip. Then you literally ran into me. It's like it was meant to be."
Harper had moved to stand directly in front of him while she talked. She isn't sure why he thinks he's not good enough for her, but she wanted to prove him wrong. She wanted to show him. He's looking down at the ground, not wanting to look into her hopeful eyes. She lifts his head up, forcing him to look her in the eyes. "Jordan, I want to get to know you. I want you to know me. Is that something you'd be okay with?" His hands go to her hips, he pulls her to him. His arms go around her and he lays his head against her stomach. And then he gives up fighting it. He likes this girl. "Of course that's something I'd be okay with. You're fucking amazing. Can I get your phone number?"
Harper laughs, "Yes, you can have my phone number." He pulls her down onto his lap and kisses her. He kisses her softly and sweetly. She moans against his lips. The sound of her moaning like that does things to him. "Harper, we need to stop, before I can't stop." She kisses him once more and then stands. Harper grabs a pen and paper from a drawer and writes down her number. "Here's my number. Use it, soon, and ask me out properly." His smile widens, "Thank you and I most definitely will. I should go now though. Before I go though, tell me something about you."
"I'm twenty five. You?" She picked her age because it seemed like the easiest thing to tell him first.
"Twenty eight. Single?"
She nods her head slowly, "Yeah, for the first time in a very long time, I'm single."
"What's a very long time?" He tilts his head questioningly.
Harpers sits in the other chair at the table. "I recently ended a long term relationship will a guy I dated all through high school, then college, up until about two weeks ago."
"Wow. That's a long time to be with someone. I don't want to be a rebound kind of thing for you."
"That's not what this is." She waves her hand between them. "I'm not looking to replace him, or forget him or get over him. I know one person can't replace another one, and I don't want to forget him and I'm already over him. I wasn't looking for anyone new, it was the farthest thought from my mind. But I met you, and you've been on my mind since we met. I can't shake you. It's got nothing to do with my ex or a rebound romance." A sweet, shy smile forms on Jordan's lips. "What about you Jordan? Are you single?"
"Yes."
A silence falls between them. Jordan looks at the time on his phone. "I better get going. Be expecting a call from me very soon. When do you start your job?"
"In a couple of weeks."
"Okay. That's gives me plenty of time then. I'll talk to you soon Harper."
Harper laughs as he stands up to go. "Plenty of time for what?" She asks as she follows him to the door.
Jordan leans down and softly kisses her lips, "You'll see. Goodbye Harper."
"Bye Jordan." She watches him as he walks away. "I hate to see you leave, but damn I love to watch you go" she says under her breath. He turns and winks just as he heads down the next set of stairs, then out of her view.
When she shuts the door, she leans back against it. Closes her eyes and asks herself, Girl what are you getting yourself into?
Her phone rings bringing her out of her thoughts. It's not a number she recognizes. She answers it anyway. "Hello?"
"Hi Harper, its Jordan. I was wondering if you'd like to go out tomorrow?"
"I'd love to Jordan." She can't stop herself from smiling.
"Great. I'll pick you up at ten."
"Isn't that a little late?"
"Ten a.m., we need to get started early. There's a lot for you to see. Wear comfortable shoes."
