Harper carries the last box into her apartment from the U-Haul. She's beat, its been a long, rough day. She should have hired movers, doing it all alone was stupid.
Finally getting the chance to sit down, Harper looks around at all the boxes. Now comes the tiring task of unpacking which Harper's not looking forward to. She'd rather make the drive from Texas to Dorchester again. Tonight unpacking will have to wait. Harper digs out just what she needs for now. And as worn out as she is, she wants to explore her new neighborhood a little.
Harper takes a shower and gets dressed in her favorite skinny jeans, Bon Jovi t-shirt and black Converse. She applies her makeup and flat irons her long blonde hair. She takes a look at herself in the full length mirror. Satisfied with what she sees, Harper grabs her purse, keys and her phone.
Harper walks instead of driving so she can really take in her new neighborhood. About two blocks from her apartment she comes to a little Irish pub on the corner called O'shea's. Across the street on the other corner is a grocery store, which is what she was hoping to find close to her apartment. So, since she found what she was looking for, she turns back to the pub. She takes a long look at the sign. She could really use a drink. And she got all dressed and stuff. She figures she's earned a drink. She's been through a lot the last few weeks.
Harper walks into the bar. She takes a look around, its not very crowded. Just a few older men sitting at the bar and a few younger guys in the back shooting pool. Harper goes to the bar and orders a whiskey sour. She takes a seat at a booth and pulls out her phone.
She finds she has several missed calls and texts. She's not ready to check her messages from back home yet. So she just goes to her Facebook. She enjoys her drink while she scrolls through her timeline. Skipping over any posts that might mention her, or Michael. Or what happened two weeks ago. She's just not ready to deal with any of it yet. Candy Crush it is then.
While she sits and plays on her phone, she notices the same guy walk past her table a few times. When he walks past again Harper looks up and meets his eyes. She gives him a smile, when he smiles back she can't help but notice how nice his smile is. He stops at the bar and orders a drink. He looks over his shoulder at her. Harper blushes and looks back down at her phone. She glances back over at him, he's still got his back turned to her. She's checking out his ass, his very nice ass, when he turns around to face her. She doesn't look away quick enough and he catches her checking him out. He stares at her for a minute before he sits a drink in front of her and walks away, laughing.
Harper watches him walk away. She can't stop thinking about how good looking he is. Dark brown eyes, dark brown hair, gorgeous smile and a very nice ass. Damn he's the whole package. Tall, dark and handsome.
Don't even think about it, now is not the time. She tells herself. She downs the drink he bought her, then slides out of the booth. She looks in the handsome strangers direction before she turns and walks out the door.
She's barely made it out the door when she hears someone, "Hey blondie, hold up!" Harper stops and turns around and he's quickly closing the distance between them. Harper doesn't say anything, she just waits for him to catch up to her. "Hi, I wanted to talk to you in the bar, but you left before I got the chance."
"You had several chances, you walked past my table like four times. You could have talked to me when you bought me a drink."
"I'm shy, what can I say? But I couldn't let you leave without talking to you at least once and introducing myself."
Harper stands there looking at him, she raises her eyebrows, "Well are you going to anytime soon. I'm trying to get home."
Damn she's feisty. "Hi, I'm Jordan."
"Its nice to meet you Jordan, I'm Harper."
"Harper? That's pretty. I've never met a Harper before. Did you say you were heading home? Are you walking?"
"Well now you've met a Harper. Yes I'm walking home, I just live a couple of blocks away. Its not very far."
Jordan steps closer to her, invading her personal space. But she doesn't back up, she stands her ground. He's surprised by this, she's such a tiny thing. He's at least a foot taller than her and has about seventy pounds on her. But she doesn't seem the least bit scared. "Its not safe for you to be walking all alone so late at night."
"I'm not going very far, I'm sure I'll be fine. Thanks for worrying. And again it was nice to meet you Jordan." Harper thinks its adorable that he's worried about her safety, or maybe its just a pick up line. Either way she's not interested and just wants to get home. She turns to walk away.
"Wait, can I at least walk you home?"
"No, that's okay. I'll be fine, I don't have far to go. And besides, how safe is it for me to allow some stranger, from a bar, to walk me to my apartment? You could be what I should be scared of."
"What's that supposed to mean?" He asks her, sounding a little on the offended side.
Harper is the one to invade his personal space now. "You could walk me home all gentlemanly like, but then when we get to my apartment you might throw me over your shoulder, carry me inside, and then ravage my body. In any way you liked." She's standing so close to him now. He can smell her shampoo and a slight whiff of perfume.
He leans down to whisper in her ear, "Only if you wanted me to, sweetheart."
