Ten o'clock seemed to tease her. Harper feels like she's been sitting here waiting forever. She woke up way too early. She'd changed clothes five times. Had two and a half cups of coffee. Cleaned the already clean kitchen. And then changed clothes again.
Harper is looking at her outfit choice in the full length mirror, contemplating changing again when she hears a loud knock on her door. Suddenly she feels butterflies erupt into flight around her stomach. Why is she so nervous? Its just a date. Just a date? Yeah right.
She's only ever dated one person before. She went on her first date with Michael, during the summer before their Freshman year of High School, eleven years ago. She hadn't had a first date since then. Harper can't remember if she was this nervous before her first date with Michael. Hell, she'd only been fourteen years old then. And they were supervised during their date. She'd gone to the County Fair with Michael and his family. What was there to be nervous about?
Today, there was so much to be nervous about. She now had adult expectations, and so did Jordan. Not to mention she had adult needs. She'd been in a relationship for eleven years, there were things she missed about being involved with someone. She missed kissing and touching, being kissed and touched. She really missed sex. Michael was the only person she had ever been intimate with. She was ready to let someone else in, literally. She yearned for a little close human contact. She hadn't realized how much she missed it until she met Jordan. He made her body wake up when he was around. Who was she to deny her body what it needed?
Harper decides what she's wearing will have to do. Shorts, a tank top and comfortable shoes, and a baseball cap. Plain, simple and a little sexy. Her shorts and tank show off her tone legs and arms. Her long blonde hair is in a ponytail. One last glance at herself in the mirror and then she goes to the door.
Looking through the peephole first, she sees Jordan. He's shifting his weight from one foot to the other. He looks nervous too. This makes Harper breathe a sigh of relief that its not just her. Jordan adjusts his Boston Red Sox ball cap and goes to knock again, but Harper opens the door before he can.
Jordan takes a step back when he sees her. His eyes go to her legs, he looks her up, then back down. His eyes move up her body again and finally lock on her eyes. "Hi" is all he says to her. "Hi" she says back. He looks good, Harper finds herself wanting to stay in, instead of going out. She knows he's wanting to go out though. He's made it pretty clear, sex isn't what he's looking for from her. She'll take what she can, he seems like he'll be a good friend to have.
"You ready? I've got a fun day planned for you. We better get going if we're going to get it all done today." His smile is infectious. He looks so happy right now. Harper likes this look on him. His smile brightens his whole face. She can't stop staring at him. "What?" Jordan asks her. "Nothing, I'm just looking at you. You're extremely handsome when you smile." He takes a step closer to her. His face goes serious, his eyes smoldering down at her. "Only when I smile?"
Her breath hitches and she swallows the lump forming in her throat. "No, you're always handsome. Your smile just brings it out even more. But when you look at me like this, you're down right sinfully sexy." He smiles at her again. "Well thank you Harper, you're pretty damn sexy yourself. Now let's get going."
Jordan takes Harper's hand as they leave her apartment. He opens the car door for her. He walks around the car and gets in, starting the car he looks at her and asks what kind of music she likes. "I like all kinds of music."
"I would have taken you for a country girl."
"Why because I'm from Texas? I like country, older country. Not a big fan of today's country music. Except a few of the female artists. I mostly like 80s and 90s music. I'm definitely stuck in the those eras when it comes to my favorite music. What about you?"
Jordan reaches over and turns his radio back on, Whatever by Godsmack comes out of the speakers. He keeps the volume kind of low. Harper reaches over and turns up the volume. Jordan thinks she just turns it up for him. Then she starts singing, loudly. Jordan's head jerks towards her. He can't believe she knows this song. "You like Godsmack?"
Harper just keeps singing, shaking her head yes to him. When the song finishes she says, "Are you surprised I like this kind of music? I told you I like all kinds of music. You got any DMX? I listen to Rap too. I have complex taste in music."
"Is that the only complex thing about you?"
"Hmm, I doubt it. Everyone's a little complex in their own way. But I'm pretty straight forward. What you see is what you get. What about you? Are you a complex guy?"
"No, not really. I don't think so, but other people might. Actually I may be complex, I guess we'll see." He smiles at her, and there's that gorgeous light again.
That answer tells her that he's going to be complex. But that smile, makes her not care.
