"Welcome back Miss Evans. How did you like your training?" Joey asked her as she walked to her office.

"It was good. A lot to remember, but I think I'll be okay at this. Do I call you Mr. McIntyre or Joey, or is it Joe?" Him calling her Miss. Evans throws her off. He's not her boss or anything, but she doesn't want to be to personal or  unprofessional. "Call me Joey, or Joe. Either is fine. So are you ready for this? You'll start seeing your parolees today. I've put everything you need on your desk. If you have any questions or problems just call me and I'll come down here to help you, okay?"

"Okay. I guess I'm as ready as I'll ever be. Wish me luck." She does everything she can to hide her nervousness. Joey shows her where everything she needs to get through her first day is. "Thank you for all your help Joey."

"Not a problem, Harper. By the way, after a new person's first day, we all take them out for a drink. So be ready for a little fun at the end of the day!" Harper smiles and says okay.

Her first day is hectic. Trying to keep calm and not get flustered. She takes her time like she was taught in her training. By the time lunch rolls around, she's feeling more confident. Before leaving for lunch she texts Jordan.

Harper: Hey babe, my first day hasn't been too bad. Getting the hang of things pretty quickly. Going to lunch shortly, wanna meet up?

Jordan: Wish I could, I've got a few things to take care of. Miss your beautiful face. Can't wait to see you tonight. I'll give you a celebratory shag for your first day. I love you babe.

Harper: Okay, maybe another day then. Was hoping for a nooner, but I guess it'll just have to wait until tonight. Oh coworkers want to take me out for a drink after work. Maybe you can meet us out? Let me know. Love you!

Harper puts her phone back into her purse and goes to pick up her next appointment. She can't for the life of her remember the name of who's there to see her. She opens the lobby door, and there's Jordan. Had he decided to surprise her for lunch? How sweet of him. She needs to pick up her parolee and get them seen really quick, so she can take her lunch.

Jordan looks up and sees her standing in the door, his brows draw together. Then a look of pure horror comes over his face. Harper doesn't seem to notice, she just grins at him. She steps back around the door to ask the clerk the name of her next appointment. She looks at her sign in list, "Umm, Knight, Jordan." Harper's eyes widened as she looks back at Jordan. He's standing up now, she calls, "Knight. Jordan Knight?"

Jordan slowly walks towards her. Harper regains her composure. "Hi, I'm Ms. Evans, I'll be your new PO."

"Its nice to meet you Ms. Evans." She just looks at him, "You too." She directs him to her office, he sits on the other side of her desk and they just stare at each other, neither knowing what to say. She finally pulls out her check list for him. She should have gone over her list of parolees before she started seeing them this morning. She just hadn't had time. She was mentally kicking herself. She pulled up Jordan's page on the computer screen. She fights the urge to look at him. She can't help herself, she glances up at him, he's watching her intently. His eyes are filled with fear. "Harper" he whispers, sending a wave of heat through her. She holds her hand up, indicating for him to stop. "Don't" she tells him sternly.

Harper pulls herself together. She cannot fall apart here. This is a serious problem, this could get her fired. Relationships with parolees are strictly prohibited. Its the first thing they talked about with HR at her training. All the new employees had to fill out questionnaires about who they knew on parole. She of course wrote None on hers. She didn't know anyone in Massachusetts, let alone anyone on parole in Massachusetts. But she did know someone on parole in Massachusetts. She was in love with someone on parole in Massachusetts. What the fuck was she going to do?

She was going to do her job, that's what she was going to do.

"Mr. Knight, any changes? I mean, is there anything you have to tell me?" He just shakes his head. "No. Nothing I can tell you in this office. Look I'm so.." he pleads with her. "Just stop. Not here." Harper has to get him out of here. She writes him up a card with his Home and Office visits on it. When she hands him the card, his fingers grasp hers, the feeling of his fingers touching hers sends electricity up her arm. She pulls away quickly. "We need to talk, please Harps."

"We can't talk here." She won't meet his eyes.

"Harper, please. Don't shut me out without at least letting me explain."

She finally looks up at him, his eyes are pleading with her, "Fine. Tonight, my place. But you explaining won't change anything. I'll call you when I get home" she whispers to him before saying, "Okay Mr. Knight, that'll be all." She stands up indicating for him to go. She walks him out of the office. He turns to look at her again as he leaves.

Harper goes back to her office, feeling defeated. She went from excited and loving her new job, to absolutely hating everything about it.

Now that he was gone, Harper looked up his case again. She had to know why he was on parole. She had to hope it was something simple. Today just wasn't her day. She knew now why he'd been away from home for so long. He recieved a fifteen year sentence for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and he'd spent ten years in prison. What the actual fuck?
