Flashback

It was late evening, the suns last rays peeking through the gaps in the green leaves, leaving freckles of light upon the forest floor. You walked in a comfortable silence beside Thranduil, the one who had captured your heart so effortlessly. You sighed quietly because in your heart you knew there may never be more for you two than friendship since you had been friends since you were elflings. He had noticed the change in your mood and a mischievous glint in his eye began to shine.

"Núr cin na i duin" he shouted before darting off ahead and all sad thought left you as you shot after him feeling your competitiveness kick in. You jumped over a root and were now running shoulder to shoulder. You looked at him to see his signature smirk painted onto his lips, mischief glinting in his frosted crystal eyes. You both ran with such speed that pollen and leaves where left fluttering in your wake. You began to take the lead as the river bed came into view and you felt victory against your fingertips.

"Not letting you win this time princess!" he shouted and he flew past you and made it to the river just seconds before you. "I let you win" you laughed lightly as you smoothed your lavender tunic down and settled your silvery blonde locks. He scoffed "Of course, Lady Y/n" he said sarcastically as he sat beside the river and leaned back against a large boulder. You sat beside him as he began skipping rocks, you watched him fondly recognizing his behaviors and being able to place his feelings with even the simplest of his actions.

"What is on your mind my prince?" he groaned "Don't call me that. I'm simply thinking about the future i suppose. Worrying about it" "The great Thranduil, worrying? Impossible" you said feigning shock, receiving a small chuckle and a nudge from him. "Well I think being a king is something all would be a bit concerned about. You are luck you need not worry about such things" you felt a slight prick in your heart at his words. "Well, being a female Sindar isn't exactly starlight and waterfalls. My father expects me to marry another Sindar elf, become the queen of some far off land. You are not alone in such feelings, Thranduil" you said gently.

You both sat quietly for a bit, you plucked a few wild flowers and began weaving a beautiful crown. Oh, how you wished he would be the one you'd marry. Yes, he was your best friend and yes, you both are very close and talk about everything but it just seemed like your subtle advances only got you farther from him, and he didn't even notice. "And Thranduil, I personally think you will make a wonderful king" gently placing the crown on his head he faced you with mild shock lining his features until it was replaced with a genuine smile.

"And I think you will make a great Queen someday. The people of those lands will be ever so lucky." your heart both raced and clenched at those words. 'Please just notice me! Please just understand my feelings and return them!' your mind cried. There was no other way to go about this than to be blunt.

"Thranduil, Can I ask a favor of you?" he nodded, looking at you with slight curiosity and concern in his midwinter eyes. "Don't speak for a moment, I have much i must say...only when I am finished you can reply." you moved away from him a bit so you sat a small distance from him and could view him clearly.

"Alright Y/n" his velvety voice called out. Taking a deep breath you began "Alright...I am in love with you" it felt both reliving and horrifying to say it aloud in front of him so you stared at your hands in your lap to avoid meeting his shocked gaze. "I have been for the past century, I have been too scared to say it so forwardly so I had been giving subtle hints and advances but you never seemed to notice at all." you let out a shaky breath "To be honest I'm absolutely terrified to be saying all of this right now but I figured you should know even if my feelings are not-" you were cut off as you felt a warmth come upon your face.
