After a while Bob arrived with the "guy".

Melly said "Hi Bob, Hi Randy, and you are"? Melly held out her hand to be polite.

The boy shook her hand "My name is Stuart."

Melanie replied "Oh well I'm Melanie but you can call me Melly."

Out of nowhere Dallas Winston said "Well Melly he obviously just wants to fuck yo-"

Johnny shushed him "Dally you-"

Melanie went red "Oh okay." She sat down and Stuart wrapped his arm around her.

Dally muttered in Mellys ear "First step, wrap your arm around the girl."

Melanie whispered for only Dally to hear "Really"?

Stuart set his hand on Mellys lap. And Dally continued muttering "Then he sets his hand on your lap. Then he will try to move it up so where it reaches your -"

Melanie yelped as she smacked Stuart's hand off her "What are you doing"?

Stuart laughed "Oh your gentle there aren't you."

Melly grabbed her purse and told Cherry "Please drive me home."

Cherry was busy with Buck and she said "Just watch the movie."

Melanie decided to walk home "Bye Marcia and Randy, Bye Cherry and Bob." She looked back once more to see Stuart glaring at her. Then she saw Dally who winked at her. 

Melly had to take off her shoes because they hurt on the gravel she was walking on. Melanie couldn't believe Stuart. She has never had to deal with a boy that moved that fast. Melanie knew what he wanted to do, Melly had done it before on accident. She was drunk and it was someone from Shepherds gang. She avoided going near the Greasers side of town because of her actions that one night. She stared at her watch 9:33. She had to be home in 22 minutes and she was still about a half hour walk from home. Melanie tried walking faster but she ended up stepping on a broken glass. Her foot would not stop bleeding so she was basically leaving bloody footprints each time she walked father.

Stuart came up from behind and said "There you are, Angel." She

Melanie replied "Actually it's Melanie."

Stuart pushed her into the fence "I don't care. I don't like being rejected. You copy" ?

Melanie nodded "Yes."

Stuart pinched her cheek "So how do you think I feel when a weak SOC girl leaves me at the drive in."

Melanie replied calmly "Not happy."

Stuart slapped her cheek "So why did you do it"?

Melanie shoved him off her too hard "Back up"!

Stuart laughed in anger "Oh no you don't sweet heart." He lunged at her and Melly ducked.

She tripped and fell back "Get away from me."

Stuart tried kicking her but missed "No."

Melanie started screaming for help "someone help."

Stuart took out a switchblade and held it to her cheek "Shut up or." He stabbed into Mellys cheek and a bit of blood trickled down her face.

Melanie picked up a handful of dust and threw it in his face "Help"!

Stuart picked her up by her hair "I said to shut-"

A voice came from behind "What the hell are you doing"?!

Melanie looked up and saw Sodapop "Help me."

Stuart turned around and glared at Sodapop "Mind your own business."

Sodapop punched Stuart in the face "You Prick! Leave the girl alone"!

Stuart punched Sodapop in return "Excuse me"?

Melanie grabbed the liquor bottle on the ground and hid it behind her back "Stuart look"!

Stuart looked her way and Melly threw the alcohol in his eyes. He wailed in pain and dropped the switchblade on Mellys foot. It went through her skin and she groaned as she pulled it out.

Sodapop walked over to her "Are you okay"?

Melly shook her head "No, why did you help me"?

Sodapop picked Melly up "Because no one should mistreat a lady that way."

Melly tried to stand up but collapsed in Sodapops arms "I am afraid I can't walk."

Sodapop picked her up bridal way "Where do you need to go"?

Melanie replied "My house. But it's on the West side."

Sodapop nodded "I will take that risk."

Melanie blushed "Thank you that is so sweet."

After 30 minutes, they arrived at her grand house.

Sodapop told Melly "This is where you live"?

Melanie smiled "Yes, I will try to walk from here. Thank you."

Sodapop set her down "As you wish."

Melanie stopped and handed Sodapop her $70 "here for carrying me and risking it."

Sodapop looked stunned "Are you serious"?

Melanie nodded "Yes that was very sweet of you. "

Sodapop chuckled "Thank you so much."

Melanie limped to her door and turned towards Sodapop "I think someone is going to get a raise."

Sodapop waved "Good Night"!

Melly waved back "Sleep tight. And may you see the morning light."

She walked inside and found herself in front of her Dad.

"Hi Pa."

He looked mad "Melly dear, I really don't get it. I give you so much and yet you struggle to follow my rules I have given you."

Melanie looked down and held her arm "Pa I can explain, A boy attacked me and he injured my foot. But another boy was nice enough to carry me home."

Mr.Pancetta sighed "Melanie, this time I will let it pass ,but please don't let it happen again."

Melanie nodded "Yes sir. Oh and Pa please give the two boys As the shop a raise. They were very hardworking and even brought me a lunch."

Mr. Pancetta kissed her cheek "You are so sweet. If you want me to give them raised than I shall do so."

Melanie headed up to her room "Good Night Pa. I love you." Melanie changed into her nightgown and brushed her hair into a frizzy braid. Before she stared at the window she looked at the stars. " So many stars and I know the brightest one is my brother"

She rested her head on her hand and sang lullabies to herself to exhausts her. At last Melanie had fallen into her deep sleep.
