Melanie layed in the hospital bed. She quietly sobbed to herself. Why did Cherry do this? She held onto the pillow as she awaited going into surgery. The Nurse walked in and she gave her medicine. Melly was out in a few minutes because the medicine have her it's effect.

Melanie woke up to a bright light shining. She stretched and looked up. She was in a hospital room and the sun was shining bright. She yawned and saw the time which read, 8:30 am. Melly looked down at her feet and realized she had casts on. Her parents walked in and her mother was there sobbing into a handkerchief. Melanie quietly called her "Mom. What's wrong"?

Mrs. Pancetta hugged Melly "You really gave us a scare."

Melly sighed "I just. I don't know why he didn't catch me."

Mr. Pancetta rubbed her hands "None of us know dear ,but the good thing is that your gonna be able to walk again."

Melly springed with happiness "Really" ?!

He pinched her cheek "Yes, it's just 1 month in those casts." He patted them .

Melanie hugged her father "I thought I wouldn't be able to walk again."

He hugged her back "Now, Now. No need for tears."

Melanie smiled "Thank you guys so much."

Mrs. Pancetta grinned "Your father and I are gonna go get you food."

Melly nodded "Okay thanks."

She layed back down and smiled to herself. She was going to walk again! There was a knock at the door. Melly looked up and saw the football player.

"Hi"?

He smiled "Hey you took a pretty bad fall. What's gonna happen"?

Melly didn't think she should be talking to him "Uhh. Just one month in these casts."

He extended his hand "Oh by the way, My name is Jack. Jack Rogers."

Melanie shook his hand "I'm Melanie. Melanie Pancetta."

Jack Rogers replied "I really like your name."

Melly smiled weakly "Um thanks. Look Jack you seem very nice but-"

Jack cut her off "Oh would you look at the time." Her stood up and kissed Mellys cheek and before he walked out he said " Sweet. "

Melanie was stunned. She grabbed her cheek and shook her head. There was more knocking at the door. She looked up and saw Sodapop. He had a bouquet of wildflowers. Melanie smiled when she saw him "Sodapop"!

Sodapop hugged her "I am so sorry."

Melanie released from the hug "Why"?

Sodapop looked down "I was suppose to catch you."

Melanie shook her head "No you weren't ."

Sodapop just played along "Yeah okay. I brought by some flowers."

Melanie kissed him and hugged him "Sodapop it was so sweet of you to come and see me."

Sodapop was dumbfounded by the kiss and his cheeks went red. "The pleasure is all mine."

Melanie brushed his hair out of his face with her hand "It was very nice of you to try to go into the ambulance with me too."

Sodapop laughed "Yeah just some jerk wouldn't let me get in."

Melanie replied "Yeah it was just some SOC. I hardly even know him."

Sodapop nodded and kissed her cheek "I should get going to work."

Melly shook her head confused "It shouldn't be open. I don't think my dad would have it open with out me there."

Sodapop replied "Well Cherry took your spot."

Melanie felt anger rise in her. Who did Cherry think she was taking he spot? Cherry didn't even like Greasers. It seemed as if Cherry was trying to take over Melanie's identity. Melly wasn't going to take out her anger on Sodapop though. She just smiled "Oh okay. Promise to come visit me."

Sodapop nodded "On my life." He walked out.

Melanie threw her glass of water at the wall. It shattered She felt useless laying in the bed not doing anything. She groaned in frustration and held her face. She felt tears roll down her cheeks and she realized how bratty she had been before she met Sodapop. He made her like working at the DX. And now she was separated from the boy of her dreams and he is with the girl she hates now. Cherry did this to her. Cherry has probably planned it all out and it was working all according to her plan. She tried getting up ,but the nurse who was making her rounds had just walked in.

"What are you doing"?

Melly laid down "Just stretching."

The Nurse walked over to Melly "Are you trying to escape"?

Melanie rolled her eyes "No. I'm just bored."

The Nurse glared at her "You have a T.V for a reason."

Melly sighed "Well if I can't get up how can I turn it on" ?

The Nurse handed her the remote "You can ask for help."

Melly looked down "So you can stop surgery on a patient and come hand me a remote. No thanks I'm good. I don't wanna be the reason someone dies."

The Nurse started checking her blood pressure "Calm down or else we will have to keep you longer."

Melanie turned on the T.V "That would be a living hell."

The Nurse gritted her teeth , said "Then shut up." She walked out and Melanie stared at her in disbelief. She looked at the T. V and the news came on.

The reporter said "Last Night, at the Royals High school Rally, was the biggest fall it has taken. One cheerleader refused to catch another cheerleader and it led to the cheerleader to go to the hospital. This certain cheerleader is now expelled from the High school and might have to redo his entire school year as a season. We will have more on that tonight."

Melly switched the channel. She hoped no one would find out about what had happen but now it is on the news. She settled on a Mickey Mouse cartoon. Her parents arrived shortly and she started to eat. She ate greedily and saw a worried look on her parents face. She knew something was up and now Melly wished she could get up more than ever. Get up and figure out what everyone is saying about her. She didn't like having a reputation like Dally ,but if dating a Greaser would get her a darn reputation then she was willing to take that chance.
