The fire burned just like Mellys heart would around Sodapop. Now she just wanted to know if she was a 'distraction' while Sodapop was waiting to get Sandy back. Everyone was happy there. Except for Melly. She missed Sodapop. She missed laying in his arms and he would always tell her stuff that would make her day 10 times better. Now Sodapop is holding someone else in his arms. Telling that person stuff to make them happy. The breeze came in so she put a shawl on. She saw the moon set over the horizon and she closed her eyes. Why did Sodapop do this to her?

Sodapop sat at the kitchen table holding his head. Steve and Eddie sat with him.

Evie said "Sodapop if you really want her than go get her."

Sodapop shook his head "I don't even know where she is."

Steve replied "I heard the SOCS were having a bonfire. She probably went there to clear her mind."

Sodapop didn't move "She doesn't want to see me. She probably hates me."

Evie glared at him "Don't feel bad for yourself. Go find her. go be her Prince Greaser or somethin' like that."

Sodapop sighed "Evie I just want to be left alone."

Evie crossed her arms "Then your gonna die alone because your so stubborn."

Street pulled Evie out of the kitchen "Evie you are being to rough on him."

Evie nodded "Oh I know but he is here questioning himself while Melly is out partying. He is gonna lose her."

Steve replied "Just leave him. He will come to, soon."

Evie hugged Steve "I'm gonna go. I see you tomorrow."

Steve smiled at his girlfriends grammar "Love ya." He kissed her cheek .

Evie held up two fingers "Love ya too."

After Steve was out of sight Evie ran to the SOCS bonfire. She hid  in a fluffy jacket as she dived through the SOCS. Then she saw Melly. Talking with a boy! Drinking punch with who knows what, in it.

"Melly"! She cried.

Melly looked up and smiled "Hi Evie."

Evie looked at the boy. "Damn it, he's cute too." She thought. " who is this"? She said.

Melanie smiled "It's Daniel. We have the same math class."

Evie held Melly by her arm "Uh Can we talk"?

Melanie nodded "Of course."

Evie led her to a corner "Why are you flirting"?

Melly smiled "I'm not flirting. Sodapop and I never called it off. It just feels as if he wants to."

Evie bit her lip "Well he dont. He is at his house drinking away his pain."

Melly glared at an anonymous object "Serves him right. You know he went chasing after Sandy. I'm front of me."

Evie nodded "I know everything. And I know Sodapop regrets everything."

Melanie sighed "It's not really your place to speak for him, ain't it"?

Evie mumbled "Just apologize."

Melly gasped "You want me to apologize for something I didn't do"?

Evie furrowed her eyebrows "You are acting like a real bitch. Mel. Someone had to tell you. You are always hanging out with Dally and Two-Bit and Sodapop never goes running away threatening to leave you."

Melanie dropped her cup of punch "And that gang he is in so happened to kill my brother. I never threatened to break up with Sodapop for that, did I"?

Evie pulled the jacket closer to her "No. But you are getting mad for something that ain't as important."

Melly squinted her eyes "so you would be totally chill if Steve hung out with an Ex of his. An ex that wants to get back with him. And you would be okay if Steve went chasing after her and leaving you."

Evie raised an eyebrow " Does it matter what I think? You are losing the love of your life here."

Melanie frowned "Well tell Sodapop, the messenger boy! That I ain't talking to him until he apologizes."

Evie shook her head in disbelief "I can't believe you."

Melly replied "I thought out of everyone. You would support me. But how could I trust someone who was best friends with the ex."

Evie glared at her "I'm done. Your bitchy SOC attitude is pissing me the hell off. You want to end things with Sodapop then do so. But there's people who are depending on you to make him happy and not depressed like Sandy. It's your damn choice Melanie."

Melanie looked down "Evie. I just want you to know one thing. Sodapop hurt me. I have feelings too. I'm not heartless. I want comfort as well. And the most I get is you calling me a bitch."

Evie hugged Melly "I know it hurts. But believe me. You getting together with Sodapop will fix it all."

Melanie was surprised by the embrace Evie have her "T-thanks Eve."

Evie smiled "You take your time. But not too long. I don't want to see Sodapop sad. Or you."

Melly smiled as a tear rolled down her face "Evie. I'm sorry for calling you a bitch."

Evie nodded "Same here. Friends again"?

Melanie grinned "Best friends again."

Evie laughed "C'mon let me walk you home."

Melly stood up "Lets go."

Bob stared at them as they walked away. He mumbled "Fucking bitch. I will show her."

Evie and Melly were walking home. Laughing about some dirty joke, Steve taught Evie. Suddenly A car started thinking at them. Evie looked up and saw the SOC car. "They honking at us"?

Melly looked up "Relax. It's Bob. He ain't going to hurt us."

Evie trembled "He only think there times. That means he is going to jump us."

Melanie glared at the car "He made a damn code"?

Evie nodded "That's daily life for us Greasers."

The car trapped them and Bob said to Evie "Go or die."

Evie looked at Melly "I can't leave you."

Melly shoved her out of there "Leave! Go get help"!

Evie nodded "Okay stay strong." Then she threw her blade at Melanie.

Melanie caught it and shoved it in her pocket. "What do you want Bob" ?

Bob smiled "Remeber your brother"?
