"Why does this house seem so weird?" Sam asked, staring through the windshield as I drove up the driveway.
"Probably because it looks so... normal? The story of what happened inside of it is anything but, yet it appears like just a typical house in a typical neighborhood," I said, looking up at the average looking white house in front of us. It was a nice house, but not too nice. A boring, normal two story suburban house.
"You're right. That's probably it," Sam said. I pulled up and parked next to the Tesla, spotting the guys all sitting on the house's porch waiting for us so we could all go in together. Sam and I hopped out of the car and made our way over to them.
"Hey baby," Colby said, walking over to give me a hug. I realized that if I hadn't seen them drive away, they'd probably done it while I was crying when Sam was hugging me and they'd undoubtedly seen us. He kissed my forehead before letting go.
"Sorry Mom," Jake said.
"Yeah, I'm sorry," said Corey.
"Me too," said Kevin.
"Yeah. Not cool of us," said Reggie. I smiled at all of them.
"Reggie, you're never cool," I said.
"And she's back," Jake said with a laugh.
"Alright, you guys ready to head in? The owner left it unlocked for us," Sam said.
"Yup, let's go," said Colby.
"Who's the owner? I'd hate to own this place," said Kevin.
"Some guy named Matt. Ed's grandson. He's thinking about turning it into a sort of horror house museum which is why he hasn't torn it down," Sam explained.
"That's a pretty genius idea," Reggie said.
"Not if it's as haunted and toxic as everyone suggested," I pointed out.
"Dude will make bank, though. It's guaranteed to draw in a bunch of people," said Corey.
"You right," said Jake. The guys all stood up and we walked up to the white front door.
"Alright, here goes," Sam said.
"Oh, here," Jake said, holding out a camera to Sam that I hadn't noticed he was holding. I looked over to see Kevin holding his vlog camera and Reggie holding Colby's camera.
"Thank you," Sam said. He pushed a couple buttons to turn on the mic and start recording, then pushed open the door, which let out a loud creak. We all filed inside, our shoes making the old faded wooden floorboards creak and dip ever so slightly under our weight.
"It smells like—,"
"Old people," all of us said in unison, finishing Jake's signature sentence. It, of course, didn't really smell like old people, though. More like faint bleach and sawdust.
Kevin closed the door behind us and we made our way fully inside, looking around the place. The inside looked pretty normal too, an open entryway with one hall leading to the kitchen and a living room and another short hallway leading to a carpeted staircase. The house was still fully furnished, probably Matt wanting to preserve all of Ed's things to make the house museum experience as real as possible.
