"Okay, you guys ready for your dream cliché prom moment?" Kat asked. We were all at the top of the stairs, the guys waiting at the bottom. Kat wanted to do a dramatic grand reveal where we all walked down the stairs and met our boyfriends. The idea was really cute, so none of us objected.
"Aw, they're so adorable," said Devyn, leaning over the upstairs railing. We were mostly concealed from their view so they wouldn't see us until we walked downstairs. They were looking up at us, all of them in their costumes.
Colby was, of course, Hugh Hefner. He was wearing a red silk robe with no shirt and black jeans. Corey had dressed up as a devil, Sam was Danny from Grease, Jake was the joker, and Reggie and Kevin were... who fucking knows. I'd ask them when we got downstairs.
"Come down! We can't even see you," said Sam.
Kat led the way down the long staircase and I suddenly felt like we were in a princess movie or something. We kind of were, though.
"Damn, baby," said Sam at the bottom. Kat had dressed up as Sandy from grease, wearing all leather with a black crop top. After Kat made it all the way down, Devyn headed down too.
"Aw, cutie," said Corey. Tara went next.
"Oh, look at my cute little fuckface," said Jake.
"Shut it, asswipe," she said back lovingly.
"Nessa, come on!" yelled Kat. I realized that I had been standing there for a hot minute, strangely scared to go down. Maybe it was because of how revealing it was, knowing that everyone was going to be staring at me at the same time. I adjusted my ears, then walked into sight of everyone and slowly made my way down the stairs.
All six of the guys just stood there, staring at me, their mouths open. Everyone was silent for a minute.
"Hey!" Tara yelled after a solid thirty seconds, smacking Jake in the stomach for staring at me.
"Babe, I love you, but not gonna lie, the girl looks hot," he answered.
"Yeah, I know," she mumbled. I bit my lip nervously.
"I would yell at you too, Sam, if I wasn't also seeing the full finished look for the first time. Jake is right. You're hot," said Kat. I smiled shyly at them. I looked up when I felt like I could finally meet Colby's gaze.
I stared into his bright blue eyes, seeing a look I'd never seen before. Yeah, I definitely looked hot. He seemed to finally find his voice.
"Hey there, smarty," he said.
"Hi, dummy," I said quietly. He smiled a big, goofy grin.
We all just stood there for another second. I still felt everyone's eyes on me.
"Were we going to go now, or...," I trailed off.
"We, I... yeah," said Kevin.
"Yes, now let's all stop drooling and get to the house," said Kat. Everyone filed out the door before Colby and me.
When everyone else was gone, Colby walked over to me, shaking his head.
"Fuck. How are you so hot?" he asked. I looked down at my feet and he reached out and tucked my hair behind my ear.
"You're so cliché and cheesy," I said.
"You secretly love it," he said with a smile.
"Do you like it, though? The whole look?" I asked.
"Baby, of course," he said. "And you know I'm telling the truth about you looking so good, because I was so distracted by you that I didn't bother yelling at Jake for calling you hot right in front of me. And he said it in front of his girlfriend."
"Alright, fair enough. I'll get over myself in the car and stop being so shy. Now let's grab the booze and go," I said, no longer feeling self conscious since there weren't nine people staring at me.
We grabbed the bottles and box of White Claws, then headed outside.
"Reggie, Kevin," I called.
"What?" asked Reggie.
"What the fuck are you supposed to be?" I asked. They were both dressed in all black with a bunch of grey paint samples taped all over their bodies.
"We're fifty shades of grey," said Kevin. "I've got 25 and Reggie's got 25."
"That is genius," said Colby.
"Not bad," I said.
We all got into the cars and made the two and a half hour drive down to the house of horrors, congregating in the driveway.
"This place is creepy," said Kat.
"You have no idea," I muttered.
"Okay, before we go in, is there anywhere we shouldn't go? Like the hook room?" Tara asked.
"I'm really not trying to be scared shitless," said Devyn.
"Then I would recommend not going upstairs at all," said Sam.
"Alright, can do," said Tara. We all filed inside, making our way to the kitchen. Colby and I set all of the bottles on the counter and Kevin set some red solo cups and plastic shot glasses next to them.
"Wow, I totally forgot about cups," I said.
"I know, I did too. I ran out and got them while you guys were out yesterday," said Kevin.
"You guys want to start out with truth or drink?" asked Sam.
"Or truth or strip," said Jake.
"Oh, god," Reggie said.
"Definitely truth or drink," said Devyn. "Until we're drunk enough to not care."
"Not sure I'll get to that point considering I'm wearing basically one piece of clothing," I said.
"Okay, truth or drink it is," said Colby. We took all of the bottles out to the living room and settled on the couches.
