I held Raina in my arms while she sucked down a bottle. I could tell that she was drowsy since her eyes were beginning to close. I didn't want her to go to sleep just yet, because I wanted Sam to have the oppurtunity to talk to her. I caressed the side of her face and removed the empty bottle from her lips. She looked at me and I put her on my shoulder and lightly patted her back until she belched. Melody looked at me confused and started to laugh. "What? You're supposed to do this!" I grinned.
"I know, but some of the faces she makes...she's already acting like you," she shook her head. "I'm just glad she isn't taking after him so far."
"Yeah," I looked down and heard my phone ringing. "Hey, can you hand that to me? I think it's Sam."
"Oooh," she winked at me I let out a giggle. She handed me my phone and sure enough Sam's ID was on the screen. I answered and adjusted Raina in my arms.
"Hey, Sam," I smiled.
"Hey, babe. What are you doing?" He asked groggily.
"Just finished feeding the little one," I rub her soft skin on her arm with my thumb. "You sound tired."
"I am, but I'm staying up so I can catch my flight. I'm leaving early," I smiled. "Is she asleep yet?"
"Almost, I was trying to keep her awake until you called. Do you want to talk to her?" I asked.
"Yeah," I heard him yawn. I smiled and put my phone on speaker mode. "Hey, babygirl," he said to her. She smiled faintly. "I'm coming to see you and mommy, and I can't wait." Her smile was growing. I giggled softly and Melody was grinning. She started to coo and he chuckled. "Go to sleep, baby and I'll see you tomorrow. Goodnight." She smiled and cooed again. I put the phone back up to my ear.
"She smiles everytime she talks to you," I shook my head and he continued to chuckle. "What time do you think you'll be in?"
"Probably around three in the morning, but I'll get a cab to take me to your place."
"So around 3:30 then?" Melody took Raina from my arms so I could take her bottle into the kitchen and continue my conversation with Sam.
"Yeah," he yawned again. "I can't wait to see you."
"You'll see me as soon as you get here," I grinned.
"Hey, Baylor, she's falling asleep in here." Melody called out.
"Alright, I'll be in to get her in a second," I placed the bottle in the sink and started to walk back into the living room.
"I'll let you go so you can put her to bed. I'll see you in a few hours, alright?"
"Alright," I nodded. "Bye, Sam." I ended the call and Melody handed Raina to me. "I'm going to put her in the crib, but can you stay here while I jump in the shower real quick? If she starts to get fussy wait a few seconds before you go in, she's still learning to go back to sleep on her own."
"Yeah, no problem," she smiled and I walked down the hallway into Raina's small room. I moved soundlessly and smoothly since she was so drowsy and I kissed her forehead before I placed her in the crib. She looked up at me and kicked her legs a few times and I began to trace my finger softly on her arm. I began to hum a nursery rhyme and her eyelids started to flutter shut. I waited about another minute or so and finally walked out of her room. I walked into the bathroom, started the water and stripped of my clothes. I stepped in and the hot water soothed my skin and relaxed my tense muscles. I let my hair out of the bun and it fell to my shoulders and loosely around my back.
I began to hum softly to another song as I washed my body in my favorite raspberry body wash. I washed my hair with my favorite shampoo and conditioner that both contained coconut milk. I sighed as I shaved off any unwanted body hair and rinsed off thoroughly. I shut off the steady stream of hot water and wrapped a towel around myself and began to dry off. I hurried into my bedroom, and started to get dressed. I slipped on matching peach undies and a bra. I threw on jet black jogger pants, and a white crewneck sweater. I didn't want to look sloppy, but I also didn't want to look like I was trying too hard so I figured this was the perfect balance.
"Hey, I'm going to head out, call me if you need anything," Melody hugged me as I reached the living room. "Let me know if you need a babysitter too, I love watching her."
"I will for sure," I smiled. "Drive safe," I called out as she walked out of the door. I sighed and looked at the clock, I still had about 7 hours before he would even be here. I frowned and walked over to the couch and grabbed my laptop. I scrolled through emails to see if one of my professors had sent out anything but they hadn't. "What am I thinking? It's a break, they're not going to send out anything." There was a still a month or so until Christmas but I hadn't even began to shop. I had a lot of free time, and so I figured that it wouldn't hurt. I logged onto my bank account and saw that I had extra money to order a few presents and get started on shopping.
I found colored blocks, a jumperoo and clothes that I absolutely adored for her. Once I purchased all of them I closed my laptop so I wouldn't be tempted to buy anything else. I looked down at my phone and saw that I had managed to take up an hour a half while I online shopped. My hair was still wet, and it needed brushed so I slipped into the bathroom and tightly closed the door behind me. I started to comb through my hair, and once I had gotten rid of the tangles in my hair I grabbed the blow dryer. I didn't want to be too loud in fear of waking the baby, but I didn't want my hair to be wet and tangled when he got here.
"I still have so long left to go," I whined as I walked back into the living room. I had five hours left, and I knew I wasn't going to be able to entertain myself that long. I grabbed the plush blanket from the arm of the couch and curled up into a comfortable ball on the couch cushions. I turned off the TV and covered myself in the blanket. I held my phone close to my chest and made sure the baby monitor was on. I was all set, and I knew the faster I went to sleep, the sooner he would be waking me up.
