I felt a slight poke on my side causing me to stir. I was deep in my sleep, and the poking had yet to stop. I groaned and heard a light chuckle. "Mama doesn't want to wake up," I heard Sam's voice say lightly. I fluttered my eyes open and saw Sam laying on his side with Raina leaning up against them. I smiled softly when I saw the two of them. Light was shining in the room causing me to squint and shield my eyes. "Hey, sleepy-head," Sam grinned at me.
"Hi," I said softly nuzzling my head deeper into the cushioned pillow. "What time is it?" I yawned and stretched my arms.
"Ten o'clock," he said readjusting Raina so she was no longer leaning against his face but his chest instead. My eyes grew wide and I jumped out of bed nearly falling to the floor.
"Why didn't you wake me up? I'm so late!" I exclaimed rummaging through my overnight bag for something to wear to work. I was already fifteen minutes late, and I knew my manager would kill me if I missed again. I heard him laughing and I paused what I was doing to glare at him. "It's not funny!"
"It's hilarious," he chuckled again. "You do realize that it's Thursday, right?" I looked at him. "You don't work today," he shook his head. I blushed and zipped my bag up and slid back into bed without a word. I couldn't even make eye contact with him without us both letting out loud laughs. We laid in bed for awhile, without saying much. He would kiss her cheeks, and she would play with his fingers and it made me feel so happy. He was so natural around her, he wasn't tense and she adored him. I wanted to stay like that forever - perfectly calm and blissful. It was quite apparent that Raina was feeling better, and deep down I believed that it had something to do with Sam being there. She loved him so much; she never held onto Alex's fingers, or stared at every feature on his face like she did with Sam. Her eyes were locked on him, and even when he looked down at her she never moved. "So what are your plans for today?" He asked me finally causing me to look up at him.
"I'll probably go home later, and clean up the place. It's a glassy mess," I sighed and he frowned. "I also need to go down to the courthouse later to file a restraining order. The police officer last night said it would be a wise idea since he could easily be released from jail."
"Do you want me to go with you?" He asked while tracing soft lines down my arms with his finger tips. I shuddered from his touch, but winced when he trailed over a soft bruise. "I'm sorry, baby."
"It's okay," I smiled softly. "You don't have to go if you don't want to," I sat up to face him. Raina was still staring him down and I couldn't help but grin. "Should I feel threatened that my daughter has a hardcore crush on you?" I asked causing him to smile. "We should probably get going, I don't know what time the courthouse closes, and I still need to take a shower, and clean. Plus I need to go through some old paperwork." The three of us got dressed, and I left a note on the counter for my mom letting her know that I was going back home. The morning temperature was harsh against my wounds and caused me to tense up as soon as I walked outside. "Ow," I muttered to myself while keeping my head down.
When I arrived back at the apartment, I braced myself for the mess that it contained inside. I took a deep breath and walked in with Sam following behind me. I held my head in shame when I saw all of the broken shards of glass decorating the carpet, the pictures scattered across the floor, and small blood stains on the carpet. I stood there numbly, replaying the night over and over in my head. I replayed the way his hands felt against my skin; the way I cried praying for him to stop; the sounds of glass hitting the walls; everything. I felt hands wrap around my waist and I jumped. "It's just me," Sam whispered against my neck. "Are you okay?" I nodded and continued to replay everything that had happened. "He's not going to get to you anymore, I promise."
I turned around and hugged him and rested my head in his chest. He rubbed my back in small circles and whispered sweet-nothings to cheer me up. "I'm going to get in the shower, and then I'll start cleaning up," I said releasing myself from him. He smiled and nodded causing a faint smile to grow on my lips as well.
